Chuck Schumer has been in office for over 50 years as a Democrat, first representing districts in Brooklyn and Queens and then, in 1999, becoming a U.S. Senator. He has a long, storied history as a politician that has seen him rise to great heights, including being the de facto leader of the Democrat Party... and all that is about to come crashing down.
The Democrat Party is going to do to Chuck Schumer what they do to many of its elderly politicians who have outlived their usefulness: use them, abuse them, and then discard them.
Schumer is on the losing end of an uphill battle as he finds himself in the very interesting position of being one of the people the Democrat Party left, giving him something that would probably horrify him if he truly thought about it — a commonality with Ronald Reagan.
Recently, Schumer embarrassed himself when he attempted to attack President Donald Trump's poll numbers, which far exceed Schumer's. When this was brought up, Schumer dismissed it as "polls come and go." As Nick Arama noted in her report about this on Thursday, polls only seem to matter when they apply to his enemies, not to him.

It was during this little self-own that Schumer said something that was not just demonstrably false, but particularly wrong for him to say:
"Our party is united! We're on our front foot! We're stepping forward, going after Trump, having real success," Schumer ranted.

If you've been paying attention even a little bit, you'll know this is wildly untrue. The Democrat Party is in disarray, its morale shattered, and its only weapon is being the "not Trump" party, which is so notched and blunted at this point that it's hardly a weapon at all.
For instance, the DNC is currently in a state of civil war with its vice-chair, David Hogg, fending off attempts to dethrone him as he tries to primary Democrat politicians who aren't falling far enough to the left.
It doesn't help that 50 percent of the Democrat voting base believes that the party should move further to the left, which may be a result of much of the Democrat Party leaving in 2024 to vote for Trump.

Latest Poll Shows Democrats Want to Lose Elections Forever
So, the Democrat Party is demonstrably not united, but two important factors need to be considered from both of these stories.
For one, the Democrat Party of Schumer is no longer here. It's currently on its deathbed with the steady beeping of his vitals monitor about to shut down completely because his own party, which wants to move further to the left, is gripping the plug.
Schumer is wildly unpopular in his own party, with a 17 percent approval rating. With many Democrat voters seemingly wanting little to do with the Democrat Party in its current state, Schumer finds himself with fewer allies and far less support.
So, not only is the Democrat Party not united, Schumer isn't exactly united with it either. Like many Democrats, he's still operating like it's 20 years ago, when the press still had control of the narrative, the Democrats were society's taste-makers, and he could lie with impunity without being called out. The reality is that he's a relic of an older time, quickly overstaying his welcome, and about to find out what happens to people when Democrats no longer have a use for them.
He should know. He's been doing this for a long time.
It'd be wise of him to call it a day and announce his plan to retire, but he's clinging to something that no longer belongs to him. For what, I'm not sure. His own party is, at this point, sick of him.
“I am staying put, and I’m fighting the fight every day, as is our caucus, in a united and successful way,” he told CNN during State of the Union on Sunday. “We’re showing America how bad Trump is, and showing that Republicans who embrace Trump do so at their peril.”
Desperation and delusion meet in Schumer.
