Democrats have become Seymore Skinner, the principal of Bart Simpson's school from The Simpsons. In one episode, Bart is playing hookie from school, and Skinner takes it upon himself to find the boy. He checks all the youth hang-outs such as the natural history museum and the 4H Club... somewhere no modern boy would be caught dead at. In a moment of self-reflection, Skinner asks "am I so out of touch" before thinking for a moment and wrongfully concluding "no... it's the children who are wrong."
This is the Democrats to a T. They're a party who still lives in a time when they had everything going for them, especially narrative creation and maintenance. However, we live in an entirely new age now, and the Democrats seem not only to not want to accept that, but they want to double down on what's making them lose.
According to Real Clear Polling, Democrat voters are wanting the party to move further left by a majority, despite it being made absolutely clear that their radical leftism is what's harming the party in the first place:
A poll from SurveyUSA addressed this question directly. The poll, which took place April 2-6 with 859 Republicans and 885 Democrats, found that among Democrats, 50% wanted the party to “become more progressive,” while only 24% said “stay the same” and 18% said “become more moderate.” Republicans were slightly more satisfied with the state of their party, with 40% saying it should be more conservative and 44% saying it should stay the same.
It only gets worse when you start introducing the Independent vote. It seems Democrat radicals are sincerely turning off the fence-sitters, but regardless, the Democrats are still pushing left as if it will heal the party and solve all their woes:
The distaste among Democrats for Musk and DOGE has made Democrats skeptical of cutting spending overall. When asked in a Harvard-Harris poll, taken April 9-10 with 2,286 registered voters, whether Democrats should oppose the effort to reduce government expenditures or join in the mission of cutting government waste, 62% of Democrats said they should oppose the effort to reduce government expenditures. A majority, 61%, of independents agreed with the opposing view that Democrats should join the effort to reduce government expenditures.
If Democrats keep up their fight to stop everything we voted Donald Trump to do, they're going to find themselves on an ever-shrinking island.
During the 2024 election, many Democrat voters became former-Democrat voters as they were forced into the Republican Party by an increasingly incompetent and self-destructive Democrat Party. It's entirely possible that the reason that so many Democrats want the party to move left is because those that would be there to influence it more toward the center are now in the "R" camp.
Regardless, this is putting the party well on a path toward irrelevance.
As I've made clear, if the Democrat Party wants to survive the next few decades, it's going to have to cut ties with the radical infection that's seized it, but if this polling anywhere near correct, then it seems the Democrat Party is headed toward collapse, and it's all over but the crying.
If that's the case, then Republicans shouldn't start declaring victory. You can bet that with so many former Democrat voters now in its ranks that the party will start to change as well, becoming possibly less conservative and more centrist.

Or something entirely unlooked-for will happen that will shake up the entirety of the American political landscape. Time will tell, but as of right now, the Democrat Party seems to be committed to shooting itself in the foot every chance it gets, and moreover, as it continues to lose relevance, I expect there to be more acts of spite and desperation.
I don't know how the Democrat Party recovers from a further lean into radicalization. America is already rejecting them outright with little to no sign that there's any regret to voting for Trump and divorcing itself from whatever the Democrat Party has become. It's counter-intuitive for the Democrats to buckle down on the behavior that got them there... but here they are.
I don't see how the party lasts long like that. It's like giving a patient suffering from poison more of the same poison in hopes that the body will just somehow get used to it quickly, but that's not how things work. The Democrats are killing themselves while proclaiming they're stronger than they've ever been.
If a lot of what we're seeing is the beginning of the Democrat Party's death throes, then don't get hit by the flailing.
