Greg Abbott Lays Down the Facts About the Border and Biden's Failure to Protect It

In one of the best "I am the law" moments any politician has been allowed to enjoy, Texas Governor Greg Abbott laid into President Joe Biden and his failure — nay, refusal — to secure the border.

Speaking to Marie Bartiromo of Fox News, Abbott said that the claims Biden is making that he needs to get Congress's permission to secure the border are a lie and that he has that power already. In fact, it's his responsibility.

"I'll emphasize this," said Abbott. "There is an obligation — there are laws in the United States that require the President to deny illegal entry of any illegal immigrant and if they do get into the United States, he has a legal obligation to detain those illegal immigrants."

Abbott clarified that the authority to do what the President should be doing derives from Biden's refusal to do his job.

"Joe Biden is failing at both of those duties and that's exactly what gives Texas the authority to make sure we can step up and secure our own border and protect our own state through self-defense," continued Abbott.

As RedState has been covering, the border crisis has surged out of control as the federal government has refused to stop the tidal wave of illegal immigrants from crossing the border and even has worked to hamper the state of Texas from securing the border itself. This forced Abbott to order the Texas National Guard to put up defensive measures themselves, a move that Biden attempted to stop to no avail.

Biden is now trying to weasel his way into being able to control the border through legal processes with this latest border bill which would effectively hand all control of it to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the man who broke the border, as well as billions more to go to Ukraine.

Republicans are standing against this bill for the most part, with even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urging his fellow Republicans to help kill this bill. House Speaker Mike Johnson has declared the bill "dead on arrival" in the House.

All in all, this boils down to a fight on two fronts for Texas. To the south, they're fighting illegal entry into the country, and to the north, they're fighting the federal government's constant attempts to open the border wide for illegal aliens to gain entry, including criminals, cartel members, Chinese nationals, and Middle Eastern terrorists.

At this point, Abbott has had to take the law into his own hands and do what Biden should be, even going so far as to defy the federal government's constant attempts to wrangle Texas. However, it would seem that Republicans have Abbott's back and the fight to secure the border will continue.
