Few things present very real dangers to the Democrat Party quite like the internet. While it allowed the Democrats to spread their message far and wide, they've never liked to contend with the idea that it also gave their opposition the means to get their message out as well. Soon, the monologue that the left enjoyed through control of the corporate media became a dialogue.
They attempted to control things as much as they could. Hard rules about narrative control were given to social media companies that would happily silence and ban anyone who spoke against the running Democrat narrative. However, as of late, that control has also begun to waver thanks to various events such as Elon Musk gaining control of Twitter and turning it into X, a free speech platform that has a habit of allowing users to correct falsehoods through a function called "community notes."
However, another platform has been giving the left all sorts of trouble, and not just to the Democrats here in America.
Rumble, a video-sharing and streaming platform that bases its values on free speech, has been growing constantly. The platform plays host to all sorts of people including Dan Bongino, Donald Trump Jr., and Russell Brand, the latter of whom came under fire last year for sexual harassment claims. As I said back then, the attack on Brand was ultimately an attack on Rumble, and an effort to get the platform to begin self-censoring through outside pressure.
It failed significantly, and Rumble gave a figurative middle finger to the authoritarians demanding it censor its users.
This resulted in constant attacks on Rumble. For a time, Rumble suffered DDOS attacks that interrupted streamers and uploaders in an attempt to bring business to a halt. But the attacks are also coming from Washington as well.
As reported by Reclaim the Net, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched an investigation into Rumble. As Florida Congressman Byron Donalds said, he suspects this is a politically motivated investigation with the hope that it will somehow impact the 2024 election.
Donalds pointed out that the investigation is being done over an accusation by a group called "Culper Research" which seems to have a vested interest in Rumble's failure:
The investigation of Rumble pivots on allegations against the company’s user metrics. According to a report from activist investment group Culper Research, which has an active short position in the social media platform (meaning that would profit if Rumble’s stock drops), Rumble is accused of boosting its reported monthly active user count.
Since these allegations, Rumble’s stock price has increased dramatically, showing consumer and investor confidence in the company.
With the gears of the presidential election cycle turning, Donalds expressed concerns about the timing of the investigation. The implications of it seem to suggest an intention to control Rumble’s impact in the 2024 election through the pressure of continuous legal proceedings.
Two entities are working against Rumble for their mutual benefit. One in an attempt to make money off its failure, and another which would only benefit greatly if it was silenced.
Donalds isn't wrong. If the Democrats are successful, they'll have effectively silenced a huge breaker of their narratives and a source of information that they have no control over. This would play very well for them in the upcoming election, eliminating one more source of defiance and giving them more control over the minds of the populace.
Biden's SEC, like many of the departments under his control, is constantly working to silence those who may pose a threat, but as demonstrated, every attempt seems to backfire. Their attempts to collapse Donald Trump's chances have only made him more popular, and Rumble only seems to be getting more traffic.
In both cases, the attempt to bring these two entities down only proves that the Democrat Party and the Biden administration fears them. Rumble, in particular, is definitely something the left should be worried about. It has, so far, resisted all attempts at forced censorship and is becoming more and more popular by the day.
You can bet that there will be more and more attempts to shut Rumble down, but it would appear that despite the best efforts of the left, it's still going strong.
