Don't Blame Ted Cruz or Josh Hawley for the Riot

There’s a running narrative on the left that the riot that occurred at the Capitol is somehow the fault of anyone who stood against the left during the election or even encouraged the rally that occurred previous to the riot.

This includes blaming politicians such as Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, both of whom are being constantly referred to as “traitors” or “insurrectionists” simply because they opposed the Electoral College results and launched the debate.

Now, according to Fox News, leftist senators are trying to push the Ethics Committee to expel and censure the two Senators:

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., called for the expulsion of Sens. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, from the Senate on Monday over their leadership in efforts to object to electoral votes as they were being counted during a joint session of Congress last week.

Hawley and Cruz have faced significant pushback for the objections after violent protesters stormed the Capitol building, interrupting the congressional proceedings on Wednesday. While some Republicans changed their stance on the objections once order was restored, Hawley and Cruz maintained their positions.

“The Senate Ethics Committee also must consider the expulsion, or censure and punishment, of Senators Cruz, Hawley, and perhaps others,” Whitehouse said in a statement, after calling for the Senate investigation “to conduct security review of what happened and what went wrong[.]”

Whitehouse also called for both Republicans to be kept out of participating in any investigation.

“Because Congress has protections from the Department of Justice under separation of powers, specifically the Speech and Debate Clause, significant investigation will need to be done in the Senate,” he said. “Because of massive potential conflict of interest, Senators Cruz, Hawley, and Johnson (at least) need to be off all relevant committees reviewing this matter until the investigation of their role is complete.”

The issue here is that the two men did nothing to incite the riot. In fact, the only thing they’re guilty of is following the legal channels through which debate over the election results happens and, on top of that, are pretty common.

As noted by The Federalist, the Democrats aren’t strangers to sparking these debates either. This includes Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama:

Democratic politicians, the corrupt corporate media, and others continue to condemn the Republican senators and representatives who announced they will object to the 2020 election certification, but in 2005, both Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama supported objection to the certification of George W. Bush as president.

In 2005, Democrats in Congress objected to the certification of Ohio’s 20 electoral votes for Bush on the grounds that “they wanted to draw attention to the need for aggressive election reform in the wake of what they said were widespread voter problems.” The objection was overturned but continued to be highlighted by some on the left.

Cruz explained his part in the riot, which is to say he played no part at all.

“What I was doing is debating on the floor of the Senate election integrity,” Cruz said. “That has nothing to do with this criminal terrorist assault, which was wrong and needs to be prosecuted. It’s exactly the opposite. What I was doing is how you’re supposed to resolve issues in this country.”

And he’s correct. Cruz not only didn’t incite the riot, but he also denounced it and called for punishments for anyone who took part in it.

Hawley also denounced the riots.

The fault of the Capitol Hill riots lies with those who encouraged the riots to happen, but triggering a legal debate and encouraging Americans to speak out and make themselves heard is not the same as guiding a mob into the Capitol and encouraging them to loot and destroy.

No Republican in office is guilty of that.

Democrats in office are, as the video below shows.

Democrats are attempting to use the momentum of the outrage from the Capitol building riot to strike against their political enemies, proving that Democrats are apparently not as bothered by the event as they say they are.

For them, it’s just another horrible event that they can use.

Never let a crisis go to waste, right?
