There were some things that really didn’t play well for Democrats this election and now that it’s clear it hurt them, damage control is the name of the game. Enter AOC, who is now attempting to downplay the Democrats’ stances on a few things, in particular, defunding the police.
The call to “defund the police” came about after the death of George Floyd and became synonymous with the Black Lives Matter movement. Naturally, various Democrat politicians began trumpeting the cause as well. This includes New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Pay no attention to the Democrat behind the curtain, however.
During an interview with Jake Tapper, AOC made the claim that no Democrat ran on the position of defunding the police.

Except that’s a lie and to find the truth we don’t have to stray too far. We only need to look within AOC’s squad where Rep. Ilhan Omar herself made it abundantly clear that police did not just need to be defunded but entirely dismantled. She even referred to the Minneapolis police as “cancer.”

Progressive group MoveOn donated money to the opponents of Sens. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), Martha McSally (R., Ariz.), and Susan Collins (R., Maine) for the direct promotion of defunding police.
AOC herself was also for defunding the police as she once said in a statement.
“Defunding police means defunding police,” she said. “It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education’s budget so that the exact same police remain in schools.”
No matter how hard she tries, her party is not getting away from the call to defund police. Especially since New York City actually did it by slashing $1 billion o the NYPD budget amid the protests for it at City Hall.
AOC can try to do as much damage control as she likes, but the internet is forever and so are the consequences for cutting the funding to the thin blue line that keeps our cities safe.
