It is time for a new round of nominations for nefarious news nonsense! In recognition of the efforts of the unprofessional press, journalistic sloth, and the deserved media mockery, we nominate these efforts for end-of-the-year honors. To commemorate the legacy of muckraking reporting and shoe-leather investigation, we have created the Golden Remington Awards. Our trophy honors the olden days when hard-scrabble hacks committed actual journalism and hammered out dispatches on those hefty word-smith devices.
Regularly, we compile some of the most fractured examples of journalism, nominating them for the un-coveted dishonor of “winning” our un-distinguished Remmy Award. At the end of the year, we recognize the greats by gathering examples in several categories and judiciously selecting the most deserving performances.
Here are the latest nominees for THE REMMYS.

Adam Rasgon - New York Times
We would not suggest that a major newspaper harbors sympathy for the Hamas terrorists. Instead, to qualify for a legitimate nomination, we prefer to show you.
As the announcement of a brokered peace deal in the Israel-Hamas war came out, one vital component was the return of the remaining hostages. At the Times, they, of course, could not abide this dose of good news reflecting well on President Trump or Israel, and needed to look at how this impacted the Palestinian side of the equation. Rasgon felt the need to look critically at this deal, as far as it applies to Hamas. The paper is actually concerned that there stands to be a real risk in the negotiation…for the terrorist organization.

Chris Hayes - MSNBC
Also, this floundering network is incapable of looking favorably on President Trump. As news of the peace deal was emerging, primetime host Chris Hayes arrived with a quixotic interpretation of things.
See, it is completely wrong to give President Trump any credit for this – Trump is faulted for…not completing a peace deal that Joe Biden had in place?! Surrrrre Chris, sure.
Here's how MSNBC's other Rachel Maddow covered Trump securing a peace deal in the Middle East.

Sara Moniuszko - CBS News
It has long been established that when it comes to the reported environmental crisis, there are two persistent realities: anything that results from climate change is completely negative, and anything that can possibly be blamed for contributing to climate change will be.
In the latest stunted report on what will kill us all, we learn that we have a group of people whom we can blame for causing this assured calamity. Ms. Moniuszko informs us that inhalers are a pernicious threat to mankind, as they contain greenhouse gases, and with tens of millions prescribed each year, that amounts to the same level of pollutants as half a million vehicles spewing exhaust. So yes, Asthmatics are killing the planet!

S.V. Date - Huffington Post
The HuffPo White House correspondent got into a digital verbal tussle with Karoline Leavitt via text messaging. After badgering the White House press secretary with numerous queries through direct messaging, Leavitt dared to insult the professionalism of Mr. Date.
He responded to this by posting a lengthy thread on Xitter, detailing his entire career, for some reason. Among the selling points he delivered on his resume was that at one time, he was charged with covering the Ted Bundy trial in Florida. As a result of his intrepid reporting and inherent deductive powers, Mr. Date assured everyone he was able to conclude that the man charged with the serial murders of several co-eds was not a pleasant person.
When I covered the final days of Ted Bundy in Florida, I came to the story knowing virtually nothing about him. The more I learned, the more I concluded that this was a terrible, and dangerous, human being. My stories reflected this.

David Schechter - CBS NEWS
As the government shutdown continues, the press is doing all they can to make this out to be the most grievous act executed upon the nation. However, we suspect they might be running out of sympathetic stories, based on the report from CBS.
There is always the need to find the groups that are most affected by a development like the closing of government services, as emotional reactions are needed to provoke the necessary outrage. However, we feel you are not going to cultivate too much sympathy by selling us on the plight of black footed ferrets due to this shutdown.

Molly Longman - Wired Magazine
It would not be a normal month without some form of emotional reaction coming out of the WNBA. Not to say that all of it is unwarranted, but for a league in desperate need of positive PR and audience growth, there sure seems to be plenty of discord coming from their realm.
We have seen the sex toys thrown onto the court during games, alleged racial accusations that do not exactly pan out, and a game had been halted when one player lost her wig in the middle of play. Now to be added to the list of grievances comes this report from the world of sports gambling.
Wired details that it has been discovered that bettors on WNBA games are making wager decisions based on the presumptive menstrual cycles of the players.
The overwhelming rise of sports gambling means some of them are betting on the games—and the players’ periods—which experts warn isn’t just pseudoscientific, but sexist, too.
Some sports gamblers are trying to predict WNBA players’ performance—and the outcomes of games—based on the athletes’ periods. One betting content creator has dubbed it “blood money." https://t.co/pMnN7E1Flx

Distinguished Political Cartoons
Pat Bagley - Salt Lake Tribune
Considering all of the talk the past few months concerning dangerous rhetoric and how it contributes to political violence in this country, one might expect the press complaining about such would be working to cool down the outrage. Not so in Utah.
In this sensitive environment, it strikes us as somewhat tone-blind for a news outlet to push images of a world leader taking a chainsaw to American farmers. There is no way to spin this as meaning anything else when you use a direct reference to a classic slasher motion picture in the headline for this feature.
Not to get squeamish and snowflakey, but it seems as the press is complaining about dangerous rhetoric and political violence, maybe portraying the leader of Argentina taking a chainsaw to an American farmer is quite tone deaf for an outlet.https://t.co/m0lavtEB6c

Distinguished Editorial Writing
Madeline Holcombe - CNN
It is always understandable when an activist writer sees a social inequity that affects them personally and uses that perceived offense to spew out a think piece on the matter. Understandably, we say, because they cannot help themselves. But what makes this effort particularly impressive is that the writer Holcombe sees what is regarded by most as normal behavior, and she spins more than 3,000 words on her being offended. So what has this journalist so perturbed?
Men are willing to notice attractive women once again.
That’s it. But she sees this return of open appreciation of lovely and fit females as a social scourge, one that is seeping into our culture, and she bemoans the departure from promoting body positivity (TRANSLATION: celebrating those who are enormously overweight).
Making this bleating all the more special, Holcombe criticizes this return to weight loss, fitness, and the betterment of your physical form under the HEALTH & WELLNESS section of CNN digital.
