XXX-celsior? Marvel's Stan Lee Accused of Sexual Harassment

Are candy-stripers his kryptonite??? (Yes, I know that crosses comic universes…relax)

At the recent Golden Globes Awards host Seth Meyers made a joke regarding the ever-unspiraling sex scandal that has shaken the industry. He stated that night was the first time in months the men in the room would not be nervous to hear their names called loud. It was an accurate assessment of how the entertainment news has been cycling ever since the first week of October.

Today sees another famous name being brought up in relation to unwanted sexual advances: Marvel Comics figurehead Stan Lee. According to The Daily Mail the creator of The X-Men, and Stripperella is being accused of a series of improper incidents with nurses who were hired to help care for him in his Los Angeles mansion.

The Marvel creator, 95, is alleged to have repeatedly groped and harassed a string of young female nurses employed to care for him. He is said to have asked for oral sex in the shower, walked around naked and wanted to be ‘pleasured’ in the bedroom.

However, many deviations occur that sets Lee’s accusations apart from recent similar stories that have come out regarding luminaries in the entertainment industry. For one we are not seeing an immediate departure from his business, and admission of guilt. Stan’s lawyer, in fact, has come out and directly contradicted the claims, stating this was a calculated attempt to extort money from the comics legend. He has also filed papers with the nursing firm instructing them to cease any further comments.

Additionally, the Daily Mail story is not citing anyone directly as making these charges. Past episodes have involved women coming forward with direct charges, and doing so on the record. The outlet only states there were numerous employees from the same nursing provider. The name of the company has not even been released, ostensibly to protect the accusers. (“Dailymail.com is not naming the company as to do so would identify the women.”) Despite such caution, the outlet has no reticence naming Lee and also using an unnamed source to further provide supposedly salacious details.

One other telling detail; there have been no police reports filed, and no lawsuits have been brought forward. Stan Lee’s lawyer made a statement to the Daily Mail, electing to go on record unlike the source that the paper cites:

We are not aware of anyone filing a civil action, or reporting these issues to the police, which for any genuine claim would be the more appropriate way for it to be handled. Instead, Mr. Lee has received demands to pay money and threats that if he does not do so, the accuser will go to the media.

That would be the anonymous accuser, who conveniently supported each of the accusations made by the Nursing firm. Almost like the Marvel character Cypher, from The New Mutants, Daily Mail has an ability to intuitively understand what anyone is saying. Here they seem able to assess guilt, without the ability to actually see the evidence.
