Former FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya accused President Donald Trump of breaking the law on Tuesday, claiming he was "illegally fired." That accusation was made in a rambling statement put out on social media.
In it, Bedoya proclaimed that the FTC is an "independent agency" whose staff are "unafraid of the Martin Shkrelis and Jeff Bezos of the world." He then accused Trump of wanting to create a "lapdog for his buddies."
In my view, the mental instability shown below was enough cause to fire this guy, never mind that he was a far-left "lieutenant" of Lina Khan, one of the worst people to ever lead the FTC.

I am a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission. The president just illegally fired me. This is corruption plain and simple. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/12HPZsbLTP

There's a lot of stupid stuff in that statement, but any government official who believes an executive agency is "independent" has no business being a government official. It is exceptionally dangerous for any bureaucrat to believe they are only accountable to themselves. Nowhere in the United States Constitution is it dictated that certain sectors of the federal government exist outside of the influence of American voters. The FTC is under the authority of the president for a reason, and one of those is that it must be subject to electoral results. Anything less is authoritarian, even if bureaucrats see themselves as benevolent dictators.
The FTC does not exist to stick its finger in the eye of "Jeff Bezos" or Donald Trump's "golfing buddies." That mindset shows the level of corruption that existed there before the current administration cleaned house. That doesn't mean the FTC shouldn't enforce the law when it comes to the wealthy, but it does mean it shouldn't look at them as enemies. Bedoya clearly does, and that was a big problem.
Unfortunately, it would not surprise me to see some left-wing federal judge step in here and reinstate Bedoya, as crazy as that sounds. At this point, essentially everything the administration does is being challenged, and some of the decisions handed down have been nothing short of tyrannical, supposing the judiciary can repeatedly and without good cause override the constitutional powers of the presidency for reasons that are obviously political.
These are the battles that must be fought, though, and the White House is not backing down from them. We can only hope that the Supreme Court sees fit to put a stop to all the nonsense in the near future. If the high court doesn't act, things will only get more chaotic.
