Axios has released a new poll showing American attitudes toward illegal immigration and the question of mass deportations. The results are a disaster for Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.
The survey, which was done by Harris, found that a full 42 percent of Democrats favor mass deportations as a solution to Biden's self-created border crisis. That is a shocking total.
EXCLUSIVE POLL: Americans are open to Trump's harshest immigration plans.

Half — including 42% of Democrats — say they'd support mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, per a new Axios Vibes survey by The Harris Poll. https://t.co/fXPKxpGlQj pic.twitter.com/UIWn2SRKn7
We aren't talking about a polling question regarding reform for asylum rules. On that, you might expect some separation on the left. I would have never expected almost half of Democrats to be in favor of mass deportations, though. That is the supposed "radical" position when it comes to illegal immigration. After seeing that much movement to what would be considered the harshest measure against illegal immigration, I can only imagine how toxic the issue must be to the Democratic Party overall when you consider all its aspects.

There's simply no good news for the White House in this poll. It goes on to show that Biden is personally blamed for the border crisis at a higher rate than any other politician or factor.
But when it comes to blame, Biden so far has failed to shift the narrative: 32% of respondents say his administration is "most responsible" for the crisis, outranking any other political or structural factor.
Still, Axios is Axios, which means they had to try to put a spin on their own data.
Between the lines: The survey found discrepancies between Americans' perceptions of immigration and the reality established by data.
- 64% wrongly believe immigrants receive more in welfare and benefits than they pay in taxes.
- 56% wrongly believe illegal immigration is linked to spiking U.S. crime rates.
What you see above is a common game played by the press, which is to misleadingly combine legal immigration with illegal immigration when discussing these issues.
Do illegal immigrants receive more welfare and benefits than they pay in taxes? The answer is almost likely yes, both because many don't pay any income taxes and because emergency rooms and hospitals are required to provide service regardless of immigration status or ability to pay. Are illegal immigrants feeding into America's crime problem? The answer is clearly yes because the alternative is them not being here at all. Every murder committed by an illegal immigrant could have been prevented by a secure Southern Border.
Biden doesn't have many options to counter this shift in public opinion. He could take solid steps toward mitigating the crisis by reinstating Trump-era policies, but that would require betraying his far-left base, which includes the White House handlers who pull the strings. That's not going to happen, and the timeline is so compressed at this point that it might not make a difference anyway. Democrats have painted themselves into a corner on illegal immigration.
