Joe Biden's Disgusting Statement on 'Non-Binary' Student's Suicide Deserves a Reckoning

The death of Nex Benedict, a biological female, high school student who identified as non-binary, took the nation by storm in February. Within hours of the news breaking, far-left ideologues began a campaign claiming she was beaten to death at school for her claimed identity. The story quickly went national, with every major press outlet repeating the same narrative.

Vigils were held across the country, with Democrat politicians joining the chorus of people speaking out against the supposed "hate" that had caused Benedict's death. Little by little, though, the facts started to come out.

A video of Benedict sitting in a hospital bed emerged. In it, she claimed to have started the fight in question, denied being bullied by anyone for being non-binary, and appeared to have no visible injuries. How could the fight in question have caused her death a day later? The simple answer is that it couldn't have, and it didn't.

As RedState reported on Thursday, the medical examiner's report was released showing that Benedict committed suicide by taking a combination of Benadryl and Prozac, an anti-depressant. She hadn't been beaten to death. She wasn't killed for being non-binary. She tragically died by taking her own life.

Those facts didn't dissuade those on the left, though, including the President of the United States, who put out a statement blaming "bullying" for Benedict's death. As of this writing, there is no evidence she was bullied for being non-binary.

It's hard to describe how disgusting and cynically opportunistic the above statement is. Yes, it ignores all the facts surrounding the case, doesn't apologize for the weeks of disinformation the White House spread, and is only meant to be a partisan political message. It's worse than that, though, and it's time Democrats are made to face the crisis they are creating.

Benedict didn't commit suicide in a vacuum. She committed suicide amid a culture that insists affirmation of mental illness is the only viable treatment, and that the depression or anxiety she felt was a result of society not accepting her for who she is.

Where were the doctors and family members willing to speak the truth and help Benedict understand who she really was? They were nowhere to be found. She was left to suffer, withering away inside, while society pumped her full of happy talk about how everything was fine.

Biden's statement is awful because of what it says, but it's also awful because of what it doesn't say. Nowhere in it is any acceptance of responsibility for the fact that children are being pushed to suicide by an insidious ideology meant to make adults feel better about their life choices. The president passed the buck as he always does, blaming "discrimination" instead of entertaining the idea that a child suffering from mental illness needed more than a pat on the back and some hormone blockers.

So here we are, with another confused, hurting child having taken their own life and seemingly no lessons being learned.
