Mitt Romney is headed for retirement, and not a moment too soon. The ostensibly Republican senator appeared on "Meet the Press" on Sunday and was asked about the ongoing impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. His answer will have you rolling your eyes.

You may want to sit down for this one, but apparently, there is "no evidence" to support even an investigation into the president. At least according to Romney.

ROMNEY: No, I don't see any evidence of that at all. I think before you begin an impeachment inquiry, you ought to have some evidence, some inclination that there's been wrongdoing, and so far, there's been nothing of that nature that's been provided. 

WELKER: So are you opposed to the impeachment inquiry?

ROMNEY: Well, if I were in the House, I'd be against it unless they were able to bring forward evidence that suggests there was a high crime or misdemeanor that has been committed, but so far, that hasn't been the case.

I refuse to believe that Romney is this vapid. I refuse to believe that he's this uninformed. Rather, I'm left to assume that he's just dishonest. To say there is "no evidence" connecting Joe Biden to his son's business dealings is completely false. 

Just to name a few of the known connections, the now-president called into dozens of Hunter Biden's business meetings. Joe Biden even gave a personal meeting to a Russian oligarch who paid his son millions of dollars for completely unexplained reasons. Hunter Biden also made direct payments from his businesses to his father. Further, emails, WhatsApp messages, and even a highly detailed FBI FD-1023 report claim Joe Biden was involved.

Now, could one argue that's not enough to convict in an impeachment trial? Sure, someone could argue that, but to argue that all of that doesn't even provide an "inclination," as Romney said is needed, is laughable. If we were talking about Donald Trump, he'd have already been impeached. 

Besides, what does Romney think the word "inquiry" means? The entire point of an inquiry is to follow up on leads and produce evidence. Romney is trying to have it both ways. He wants to claim there's no evidence while insisting no investigation can take place to provide it. Would he be so kind to a Republican president? We know the answer to that given he suddenly grows a backbone when it comes time to criticize his own party. 

Romney is everything wrong with the legacy GOP. It's why Republican voters have rejected that wing of the party completely. Instead of realizing that, Romney and those like him muddle along with the same level of arrogance. It's mind-numbing.
