In what marks the most high-profile exit from the White House to date, Susan Rice was announced to be leaving the Biden administration on Monday.
Here’s some of the president’s statement, lauding Rice’s performance as the head of his domestic policy.
Susan Rice is stepping down as President Biden’s domestic policy advisor, the White House announced Monday.
“I surprised a lot of people when I named Ambassador Susan Rice as my Domestic Policy Advisor,” Biden said in a statement announcing her departure. “Susan was synonymous with foreign policy, having previously served as National Security Advisor and UN Ambassador. But what I knew then and what we all know now – after more than two years of her steady leadership of the Domestic Policy Council – it’s clear: there is no one more capable, and more determined to get important things done for the American people than Susan Rice.”
He continued from there, praising Rice’s work on healthcare, gun violence, making college more affordable, and the border. Of course, in reality, the Biden administration has done a horrific job on all those fronts. Healthcare has only gotten more expensive, gun violence has increased, college costs continue to skyrocket, and the border is an abject disaster.
Even Biden’s brag in the statement about reuniting 670 children who were “separated” from their parents is laughable. As a recent report exposed, migrant children have been turned into indentured servants under the president’s watch, being put to work instead of going to school or reuniting with family.
Rice’s involvement as leading Biden’s border strategy does explain the dystopian conditions, though. She’s also been absolutely terrible at her job, even when dealing with foreign policy as part of the Obama administration. When she was put in charge of domestic policy, many people questioned how that would work out. We now have our answer: It was a dumpster fire.
Everyone fails up in Washington so you can expect Rice to land on her feet with a high-paying board position or lobbying gig. As to the Biden administration’s policy direction, I wouldn’t expect any change on that front. It’s likely that Rice is leaving simply for greener pastures. Better to get out now than wait around for the president to face plant even harder with the American people.
