With so much going on the past several days, the fact that Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida has his first official challenger sort of slipped through the cracks. In a move that will surprise no one who has been monitoring Florida politics, current Commissioner of Agriculture and outspoken, certified left-wing nutjob, Nikki Fried, has entered the Democrat primary.

DeSantis took a few days to respond, but when he did, he went full savage on her announcement.

Nikki Fried is your typical corruptocrat and has spent her last two years as AG commissioner trying to desperately troll DeSantis in order to raise her own profile. In that respect, she has successfully garnered media attention because anyone who breathes an ounce of criticism at the Florida governor is given that. After all, a lawyer dressed as the grim reaper on a beach managed to make national news. That’s how in the heads of the media DeSantis is.

Of course, announcing a run and actually winning are two very different things. On that front, Fried is probably already doneso.

How do you just forget to report almost $300,000 in income? I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that’s not a thing. You’ll also be less than shocked to learn that her fiance created a series of companies invested in various marijuana interests even as Fried herself has been seeking to influence cannabis policy at the state level from her elected office. Others, including her father, are also involved. That’s your classic corrupt politician’s play.

What all this says to me is that Charlie Crist, who is going to end up Fried’s main challenger in the Democrat primary, is going to absolutely destroy her. Crist may be a crappy general election candidate (pretty much anyone will be against DeSantis), but he’s got the base of support and political know-how to take Fried out fairly easily.

Meanwhile, DeSantis gets to keep getting things done and making fun of these people. That it tweaks the media so much is another positive. Florida has become a haven for blue-staters across the nation, and it’s not because DeSantis is doing a bad job. Social media trolls like Fried will keep doing their thing, but her army of reply guys aren’t representative of the electorate in the Sunshine State. DeSantis is on another level, looking down on these people as they slap-fight, and it’s going to take a lot more than mean tweets to dethrone him in 2022.
