Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised.
In my conversations on this (including among commenters here), I’ve said that I just don’t have much faith that the “Big 4,” otherwise known as the Vichy Republican clan (streiff ®), will hold out in the face of the current media pressure at hand.
Murkowski, Collins, Flake, and Corker do not strike me as having the courage to stand up in the face of a baseless, evidence-less accusation and say that a woman is lying or misinformed.
Out of those four, Corker has seemed to be the strongest. Flake and Murkowski hadn’t said anything in a while. Collins has shown signs both ways. None had commented since the 2nd (most ridiculous) “accusation” emerged.
Well, Murkowksi has broken the silence.
“We are now in a place where it’s not about whether or not Judge Kavanaugh is qualified,” Ms. Murkowski, a key swing Republican vote, said in an extended interview in the Capitol Monday night. “It is about whether or not a woman who has been a victim at some point in her life is to be believed.”
This comment makes me want to punch my wall. That’s how illiberal and unjust it is.
It is also pretty clearly telegraphs where she’s heading. She’s a NO in my opinion. So now there’s zero room for error. Good luck to Kavanaugh because he’s going to need it with friends like these.
