If you can believe it, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg often shows up high in the polls of possible Democrat presidential contenders for 2028. If that’s true, all I can say is, “bring it on.”
We at RedState have faithfully chronicled Mayor Pete’s long list of failures as transportation secretary, including his ludicrous rollout of EV chargers (short version: a mere handful were made operational despite billions of Biden dollars at hand), his “paternity leave” at a time of national crisis, and so much more.
This man is not, and was not ever, ready for prime time, but there he was Sunday rewriting history and saying things that he wasn’t brave enough to when it mattered.
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Pete found a pair long after it mattered:
NBC News host Kristen Welker asked Buttigieg about former Vice President Kamala Harris' new book, in which she described the former president's decision to run for re-election as reckless.
"He should not have run," Buttigieg told Welker. "And if he had made that decision sooner, we might have been better off. But it literally was his decision. Nobody else was able to make that decision. And now in front of us, we’re confronted with the decisions that come next, whether that’s inside the political party or movement or as we’re all weighing right now, in our own lives, as Americans, as a country. And that’s where we’ve got to focus."
Buttigieg reacts to Kamala’s book:

President Trump likes to call Federal Reserve Board Chairman Powell “too late” Jerome (because he’s steadfastly refused to lower interest rates), but the nickname could just as aptly be applied to Mayor Pete. Where was your bravery when the country was on the brink, Pete? You're too late.
Did you speak out, did you call the alarm on the fact that we were this close to voting in a mentally-out-to-lunch president for a second, sure-to-be-disastrous second term? No, you were silent. Big words now, though:
"I was not included in the process of deciding whether the president should run again," Buttigieg said. "He made that decision and I think I’m not alone in believing that he should have made the decision not to run sooner."
You're too late.
"I was not included in the process of deciding whether the president should run again.” I love that—wash your hands of it, Pete. Except that you were a Cabinet secretary and you were constantly preening on left-leaning news shows to your fawning hosts about everything Biden-Harris. You had your chance to tell the truth, but you didn’t, and it’s a whole lot easier now when there are no consequences for doing so.
You're too late.
Please run, Pete. I’m quite sure that JD Vance, Ron DeSantis—whoever becomes the GOP’s standard bearer—is rooting hard for you to get in that race.
You can be sure they’ll remind you every single day that you were MIA when the nation stood in the balance. You are, quite simply, too darn late.
