As we’ve reported, The Washington Post wrote a hit piece Friday claiming freshman Florida GOP Representative Anna Paulina Luna didn’t “embrace” her Hispanic heritage and had falsely alleged that her father had been jailed (when in fact he had been).

It was a clumsy, nasty attempt at taking down the firebrand conservative, and it backfired because they’ve now had to issue multiple corrections.

Luna appeared on Friday’s edition of “Jesse Watters Primetime” to shred the newspaper for its racist reporting. Appearing with guest host Will Cain, Luna said:

Well, they did start out with saying that I basically made up the fact that my father never went to jail. And, as you saw with the records that we sent to Fox News, that’s completely false. You know, my story, growing up within the welfare system, going to over six high schools, that’s not something that The Washington Post wants to tell the truth about.

She continued:

They also proceeded to leave out an entire interview with a roommate that I had that debunked a bizarre claim made by someone that was apparently stationed with me that claimed that I owned a firearm during this break-in. [She’s referring to a break-in at her apartment that she talked about at a Turning Point USA event in 2019.]

Luna points out that she has the receipts and her lawyers aren’t going to take this one lying down:

So, fact is that we have these receipts. My attorneys already issued a letter of correction. Washington Post didn’t respond to a response from Fox Digital, nor did any of the other people that made these bizarre allegations. And we will be issuing these letters to correct to Vanity Fair and a few other major outlets [which] decided to run with the story before they corrected the facts.

Luna saves her toughest criticism for the end, though, and savages the newspaper for the racist undertones of the hit piece:

…it’s awful how they treat minorities, and the fact is that their undertone of their article was incredibly racist. They tried to undercut my Hispanic heritage. They even spoke to my mother and did report on a lot of what she was posting.

So, the Washington Post is compost, and they should do better.

Luna tweeted Saturday about the negative effects the Post story is having. Listen to the moving words of her staffer describe how people are now phoning in questioning Luna’s Hispanic heritage:

The Post article was trash, and Luna is right to call it out. The story is littered with errors and innuendo, and it’s clear the Jeff Bezos-sponsored leftist editors didn’t care if was inaccurate. Whether you like Luna or not, this kind of attack journalism from a formerly authoritative outlet should concern people regardless of their political stripes.

Good for her for fighting back. The WaPo should be hanging its head in shame, and the reporters should be held accountable. However, I doubt either of those things will happen.
