Colorado Congressman Ken Buck has confirmed he is a "solid no" on the question of impeaching Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. 

Earlier this week, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) filed articles of impeachment against of “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” as well as breaching public trust over his refusal to secure the southern border:

Throughout his tenure as Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas has repeatedly violated laws enacted by Congress regarding immigration and border security.

In large part because of his unlawful conduct, millions of aliens have illegally entered the United States on an annual basis with many unlawfully remaining in the United States. 

His refusal to obey the law is not only an offense against the separation of powers in the Constitution of the United States, it also threatens our national security.

Yet with such a tight majority in the House of Representatives, Republicans will need every vote they can get to successfully impeach Mayorkas. And sadly, not all of them are on board.

Among them is Buck, who argued on MSNBC's Chris Jansing Reports that Mayorkas has not done anything wrong and that his refusal to enforce the law is merely a policy difference:

Well, this is not a high crime or misdemeanor. It’s not an impeachable offense. This is a policy difference. Let me from the outset say there is a crisis on the border. The law needs to be enforced. But if we start going down this path of impeachment with a cabinet official, we are opening a door as Republicans that we don’t want to open. The next president who is a Republican will face the same scrutiny from Democrats. It’s wrong, and we should not set this precedent.

When Jansing asked Buck whether he was a "solid no" or if there was anything that could change his mind, the Congressman was equally unequivocal.

I"’m not changing my mind. I believe I have done my due diligence and I am standing firm at this point on this," he said. "If there’s some new evidence, I’m happy to look at it, but I don’t believe there will be.”

Buck, who fortunately is retiring from Congress at the end of this year, has a well-established reputation for angering the grassroots with his supposedly principled conservative stances.

Last October, amid the height of the chaos regarding who would replace Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House, Buck repeatedly refused to support Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) bid for the speakership over his refusal to acknowledge whether Joe Biden fairly won the 2020 presidential election or not. 

"If he's going to lead this conference during the presidential election cycle and particularly a presidential election year with primaries and caucuses around the country, is going to have to be strong and say, 'Donald Trump didn't win the election and we need to move forward,'" Buck said at the time. 

Buck also cited concerns about Jordan's pledge to defund the Department of Justice because it is merely the judicial wing of the Biden administration. 

“I think what Jim Jordan needs to do is stop talking about defunding the Department of Justice,” Buck said. “We pride ourselves on being a party of the rule of law. You can’t defund the Department of Justice or defund a special counsel’s office in the Department of Justice and talk about the values that we share.”
