Think Democrats Will Change Their Ways Anytime Soon? Here Are Two Examples of Why the Answer Is No

It has been talked about many times over the last two weeks. After the drubbing Democrats took on election night, you would think a massive strategy session would be called. Democrat strategists, operatives, and assorted muckety-mucks of the party would be putting their heads together to first admit they screwed up, then figure out how they screwed up, then go about fixing it. But apparently, that is not how things work in the world occupied by Democrats. It appears that the old definition of insanity reigns supreme: keep doing the same thing and expect different results.

Two prime examples of Democrat insanity happened recently. In Chicago, where in 2020, 15 majority-black wards voted more than 90 percent for Joe Biden. In 2024, the number of those wards who voted 90 percent for Kamala Harris dropped to seven. Again, rational thought might say that those numbers would make far-left Mayor Brandon Johnson pay attention. Not so much. At a recent city council meeting, Johnson had the incredible amount of, well...nerve...to propose... wait for it... a $300 million property tax increase that would raise homeowner's taxes by up to four percent. The best part? That tax increase would go to paying for the city's illegal immigrant population.

Needless to say, residents were not on board. Newly minted black Republican voters pushed back on the proposal, calling Johnson a "criminal," a "bully," and a "loser." One resident wearing a MAGA hat addressed the Mayor, saying,

How does it feel that Trump is in office right now? You see, Mayor Brandon Johnson, you underestimate us. You underestimate the black people and underestimate Chicago red. We are a thorn in your side. If you don’t stop what you’re doing, we’re going to take matter[s] into our own hands. Illinois is turning purple. We gonna turn red. You know that Trump had pulled 45 percent of the voters in the state of Illinois, 37 percent in Chicago. That’s the statistic. That means that Illinois is turning purple. We gonna turn red.

Another resident summed up the problem they have with Johnson, saying, “You’re gonna protect the undocumented, while you’re gonna allow for the citizens in Chicago to suffer under your, what? Three percent?” Still, another resident highlighted Johnson's dismal approval rating, saying a “14 percent rating is what you appear to have, Brandon Johnson." She continued,

What about our real estate? Because, see, we paid for these properties for a purpose and not for you to go touchin’ it with $300 million that you want to siphon out of the citizens’ pockets. Get rid of the illegals! And that will take your money right back. Start it off with that!

This is not the first time that Brandon Johnson has been told by residents what they think about their city being overrun by illegal immigrants. In November of 2023, another city council meeting devolved into a shouting match over whether to keep Chicago's sanctuary city status. In yet another act of brazenly ignoring his constituents and seemingly making no attempt at any sort of reevaluation, Johnson recently doubled down on Chicago being a sanctuary city.

He said that the Democrats' main constituency has become a group of elites with postgraduate degrees who are out of touch with the American people.

Another case of Democrats just failing to recognize any reason why voters might have been disappointed with their policies came with the appearance of Democrat strategist Fred Hicks with Fox News' Harris Faulkner. Hicks claimed that Democrats are now apparently out of the four stages of grief and have now moved onto "soul-searching," with a pinch of election-denying thrown in, saying,

Donald Trump won the election, and Democrats are very clear on that. Some people who wonder if there was some monkeying around with it. We have except[ed] [sic] the results of the election in 2024. We saw that last week when President Biden welcoming president-elect Donald Trump to the White House. With that being said, at the same time, we’re trying to figure out what happened because the economy was strong and is strong.

Harris Faulkner did her best to explain to Hicks that that was not what voters saw and experienced. Hicks then leaned on the old reliable "messaging" response. But Faulkner was not having it. She called Hicks out on both the "monkeying around" statement, as well as, once again, not listening to voters.

When you say ‘monkeying around’ about the election. I mean That’s not helpful. I mean, what is that? Why would you even express that unless you actually thought it? It’s confounding. It’s simple. It’s the economy, it’s the border. Believe the voters.

It is beginning to look as if Democrats are physically unable to realize that the main reasons Donald Trump won are the same things they kept insisting to voters, like the economy and immigration, were just fine. Overhauling their approach is going to come with new leadership. My colleague Joe Cunningham recently posed that question: Should it be an Obama-era holdover like Rahm Emanuel or a fresh face, possibly a progressive one with fresh ideas? Whoever it is, they will have the tall order of not just figuring out how to win back minority and working-class voters but then actually listening to them.

With that much on their plate, the next leader of the Democrat Party might have to bring their superhero cape with them.
