After all of the congressional wrangling over the past few months, it's happening. There's just one more thing that the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) needs to become a part of the law of the land this Independence Day -- President Donald Trump's signature.
Sometime in the afternoon the day after the House passed the budget reconciliation legislation, they let everyone know when and where the signing ceremony would take place - today at around 5 p.m. Eastern at the White House.

We need to back up a smidge, though. On Thursday, President Trump kicked off the holiday weekend early by speaking in Iowa, with a preview of the nation's festivities planned throughout 2026 for America's 250th birthday, as my colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell wrote:
Trump promised on Day 1 that he would convene a White House Task Force to "Salute to America 250." Check that off. On January 29, nine days after his inauguration, RedState reported Trump's executive order, which launched this very task force.
...
As part of this celebration of America, Trump also teased "Patriot Games." While I love the Harrison Ford movie, it has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with Make America Healthy Again by celebrating "the best of American skills, sportsmanship and competitive spirit."

The First Lady invited everyone in an X post on Friday to join in the fun as WH will be hosting U.S. servicemembers and their families at the Military Family Picnic on Independence Day this year.
"This Independence Day, we will celebrate our heroes and their families at the @WhiteHouse with a special picnic and breathtaking flyovers by F-22s, F-35s, and a B-2!" Melania wrote. "Let’s honor the sacrifices of our military families as we come together in gratitude and joy."
The joyous event kicked off with the patriotic strains of "The Star-Spangled Banner" played by a military band, and a stupendous flyover.
What a cool image our sister site Townhall shared of the First Couple and our military prowess in the skies:
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt got a selfie with the star of the show, OBBB.
The president spoke with passion about the "spirit" of the country, and wished everyone a happy Independence Day:
Trump continued, speaking about the country's pride in the successful bombing mission taking out Iran's nuclear facilities a week ago, along with the surge in enlistment and recruitment for the U.S. military and police and fire departments -- and added the comments other nations made to him on America's "hot" status at the recent NATO summit:
“We made promises, and it’s really promises made, promises kept, and we’ve kept them,” President Trump told the crowd, speaking about the reconciliation bill's passage. “This is a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy. And I have to say, the people are happy.”
Here's the big moment of the president signing the bill into law.
One fun moment was when Speaker Mike Johnson gave a gift to the president: The gavel used during the passage of OBBB. Trump used it at the end of the ceremony.
Trump tells the military families and other guests to hang tight later - for the fireworks. Then he takes time to greet some of them, which can be seen here.

Happy Independence Day, readers!
