UPDATE: DC Fire Dept. Races to Hazmat Call for 'Suspicious Item' at the Treasury Bldg. Near White House

Earlier this hour (7 p.m. Eastern), there were reports of several emergency vehicles suddenly pulling up outside the White House in Washington, D.C. Along with that was the detail that "multiple entrances" were closed:

In an update by Selina Wang, an ABC News reporter, the Secret Service has explained that the moves were part of a "routine closure," in the investigation of a "suspicious item":

As the report notes, neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris are currently at the White House.

UPDATE: According to a new report, the D.C. fire department is responding to a hazmat situation at the Treasury building next to the White House:
