At times, I’ve found it hard recently to pay attention to what’s going on across the Pond, with the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic on our shores taking up all the media oxygen (well, when we’re not busy watching Joe Biden’s presidential campaign implode, that is).
But I’ll bet you heard about a blessed event in the life of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancée, Carrie Symonds. They just welcomed a baby boy into the world.
USA Today reported:
The baby’s birth on Wednesday came just days after Johnson returned to work following his hospitalization for the coronavirus. He spent a week at London’s St. Thomas’ hospital, including three nights in intensive care.
Johnson was present for the birth but back working at 10 Downing St. within hours amid the ongoing pandemic. Johnson’s office said he would take paternity leave later in the year.
And like any new mom, Carrie shared the happy news on social media.
She wrote on her Instagram account Saturday (GMT):
“Introducing Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson born on 29.04.20 at 9am. Wilfred after Boris’ grandfather, Lawrie after my grandfather”….
Then Carrie revealed that there’s a sweet honor permanently included in the name they gave their newborn son:
….”Nicholas after Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart – the two doctors that saved Boris’ life last month.”
Absolutely delighted that Boris and Carrie have named the new baby Wilfred after my father!https://t.co/bCmQo2IcsW

Despite the celebrity nature of the event, according to SkyNews, it was a birth much like any other family’s:
A spokeswoman for the couple said they were “thrilled” and that both mother and baby were “doing very well” following the birth.
It is understood Mr Johnson was present throughout the birth, with Downing Street releasing a photograph of him beaming on his return to Number 10 following the arrival of his son.
Johnson and his partner announced they were expecting a child this summer, USA Today reported. They were engaged in February.
Here’s a prayer that the new little one and his mom and dad enjoy a lifetime of good health and happiness!
