California's unctuous Gov. Gavin Newsom has insinuated himself into the lives of Californians for decades. Too bad for them. The last time this Newsom fellow was not employed by a government was 1996 in San Francisco.
(Guess who launched his career? It was Willie Brown, the very same political power broker who helped Kamala Harris fail her way up the ladder of politics.)
And now the slick-haired dude, self-appointed lady's man, and man-about-town, even during COVID's closures, is insinuating himself into the nation's life because he wants to be commander in chief of the United States.
The opportunist has led California through disaster after disaster these past seven years. Newsom is, in fact, the Wile E. Coyote of California government. Everything he touches fails or turns into fraud.
He has been to Europe twice this winter to put himself on the world stage, which many would see as a threat. In Munich last week, Newsom took it upon himself to assure Europe's elites that President Donald Trump would be gone soon. The implication being that Newsom would be ready to step in.
Lord save us!
My colleague and RedState's Managing Editor, Jennifer Van Laar, has chronicled Newsom's epic escapades and shadiness here.
The photo above with the governor giving President Trump what-for was clearly planned. You will no doubt see it in an ad someday. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer staged the same finger-chest-tapping "confrontation" photo when she met Barack Obama on the Phoenix tarmac during their struggle over immigration enforcement some years ago.
For all we can tell, Newsom and Brewer could have been saying, "Hey, I like your shirt, Mr. President!" No matter. In an age of television, it's only the image that matters now in politics. That's also why the crowd of supporters behind a speaking politician is so amazingly diverse these days.
We haven't even passed through the 2026 midterms yet. But Newsom, facing state term limits, is already campaigning for the 2028 party presidential nomination in an impoverished field of Democrat wannabe presidential nominees.
Sure enough, the liberal media is already fawning all over him as a fresh face and future of the stumbling party. And this is just the beginning, folks.
That's what this week's audio commentary is about: a warning over the sloppy onslaught of Love Gavin coverage that we have just entered. Wait til you hear some of the media quotes. Click to listen here:
This week's Sunday column delivered some exciting news: "Believe It! An Historic Housecleaning of Congress Is Coming This Fall."
It seems a lot of people were ready to read that; I think it's been the most-read post of my tenure here at RedState. A welcome combination of factors has come together at the same time for the largest changing of the congressional guard in a century.
The most recent audio commentary hailed the House passage of the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and photo ID to actually cast an election ballot.
There are only two reasons that anyone could possibly oppose such a commonsense requirement in a sovereign nation. And both are unacceptable: A) They're not a legal citizen or want illegals to vote for our country's leadership, or B) They're not who they claim to be when they go to vote.
This important measure now goes to the Senate, where it will be opposed and filibustered by a certain political party whose thankfully departed recent president — or his puppeteers controlling the autopen — allowed, encouraged, and facilitated the flood of more than 10 million illegal immigrants into the country because: grateful voters.
