Once again, HBO host Bill Maher stands in a curious spot — in opposition to his own team.
During Real Time’s March 11th installment, the longtime Democrat brought up Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Critics have had lots to say…or maybe just one thing:

But the Donkey Party’s characterization of the measure is of the mythomaniacal sort.
As indicated by ABC News, the bill orders that lessons on sexual identity or sexual preference “may not occur in kindergarten through grade three or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”
Per Gov. Ron DeSantis, the law would also cover Pre-K:
Reporter: “Critics call it the Don’t Say Gay bill”
DeSantis: “Does it say that in the bill?”
Reporter: “It bans classroom instruction on sexual identity and gender orientation.”
DeSantis: “For who?… Grades Pre-K through 3.”

Senate Bill 1834’s actual text:
A school district may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.
It should be noted that the word “gay” isn’t in the bill. Neither is “homosexual,” “lesbian,” “bisexual,” or “transgender.”
Apropos of 1834’s aim, Bill Maher supports a central idea about sex: Little kids don’t need it.
“It’s not like you’re not allowed to literally…say ‘gay,’” he pointed out Friday. “They just don’t want teachers talking about [sex]. They think it’s the province of parents.”
Gay New York Times columnist Frank Bruni told Bill the bill is bunk:
“Does this really need to be at the top of these politicians’ list? … This is not an urgent problem. … It’s another culture war that’s meant to score cheap, easy points rather than really solving Americans’ problems.”
ABC’s The View recently questioned the relevance as well.
“I’m not sure what the point of [it] is,” Whoopi Goldberg offered.
To View co-host Sara Haines, there is none:
“Considering it’s kindergarten through third, the bill isn’t accomplishing anything. It’s not a time where many of us had sex talk at all, sexuality, sex ed. So it’s not solving anything.”
Sara clearly doesn’t read RedState:

As I’ve previously posed, the purpose of school has been radically revised. In times past, it was an intellectual training ground. It imbued attendees with information. It was an arena in which academic subjects could be studied and practiced. These days, so far as I can tell, such emphasis has been eliminated. The new concept of education is citizen training. At its heart, it’s wholly ideological; academics are incidental.
It may be hard for many young teachers to imagine school as what it once was. But the institution previously existed in a sexless state.
Bill Maher, evidently, is old-school:
“[T]hey’re talking about kindergarten to third grade. So we’re talking about very young kids who, you know, as always with this stuff, you know…it’s not like there’s no kernel of truth in that maybe kids that young shouldn’t be thinking about sex at all.”
Jen Psaki disagrees:
“[A] bill like this, that would discriminate against families, against kids, put these kids in a position of not getting the support they need at a time where that’s exactly what they need is discriminatory. It’s a form of bullying. It is horrific.”

To Jen’s horror, Florida’s legislature passed SB 1834 Tuesday. Ron DeSantis is, of course, expected to sign it.
As for Bill, he’s been on quite the roll as of late. Stay tuned as he continues to butt heads with the profoundly progressive party of Joe Biden.
