Woke vs. Bloke: An Elite All-Boys School Will Allegedly No Longer Call Them 'Boys'

A New York school has assertedly upped its enlightenment.

According to former Fox News and NBC host Megyn Kelly, her son’s former alma mater has reached an elite level of modernity whereupon the term “boy” can no longer be used — even though it’s an all-boys school.

As I covered last November, the media mogul and her husband pulled their kids from an Upper West Side private institution.

At the time, she didn’t reveal which school.

Even so, as relayed by the New York Post, it may not have been a difficult riddle to solve:

Kelly didn’t identify her sons’ school on the podcast. But she recently spoke about the COVID-19 death of her son’s music teacher, Don Sorel — who taught at the Collegiate School, a $55,900-a-year, K-12, all-boys school just off Riverside Boulevard between West 61st and 62nd streets.

Now another riddle arises: What do you call a boy if he’s a boy at an all-boys school?

Evidently, the answer isn’t obvious.

While speaking on her eponymous Sirius XM show Tuesday, Megyn shared an account with guest Victor Davis Hanson.

“We pulled our kids out of the New York City private schools,” she began, “because they went so hard Left on the wokeism and the divisive messaging.”

But recently, reportedly, woke got woker:

“[I] just heard an update on the boys school that we left. They’re no longer referring to the boys as ‘boys.’ They’re no longer calling the boys — it’s an all-boys school. They no longer say ‘your sons.’ They just say ‘your child.’ ‘Your children.’ ‘Your individual.'”

She explained a parent had noticed the omission of the male-centric signifier during a grade-wide Zoom.

The parent phoned an administrator to find out more.

Per Megyn, the mom or dad inquired, “Is this by design? … [I]’ve noticed the absence of ‘son’ or ‘boy.'”

Affirmative:

“[T]he guy owned it. He claimed he inherited it from the previous head of school, which is a lie. … They’re not going to call the boys ‘boys’ anymore at one of the oldest and most prestigious boys K-12 schools in the country.”

It seems to me we’re at a crossroads: How clear do we wish our language to be?

Since the advent of English, sexually speaking, references have remained relatively rudimentary: Terms such as “man” and “woman” — and their corresponding pronouns — have had nothing to do with personal identity.

They merely cited biology, which was unhindered by ideology.

Our verbal sexual communication now appears on the verge of being unprecedentedly complex.

If every individual has a “dead name,” a “gender assigned at birth,” a new name, and a declared gender — which may be any of an infinite lot…and if each person has his/her/zir/zir/nir/eir/xyr particular pronoun — which also may be found among an endless array — we’re ditching our streamlined, Mac-like way of relating in favor of a deep dive into MS-DOS.

Apropos of that, select schools now not only decline to conform to sexual convention; they also forbid students from practicing ways of yore.

Hence, stories such as these:

As for what led Megyn to abandon the school last year, a circulated letter had allegedly charged white people with “reveling in state-sanctioned depravity.”

Furthermore, it purportedly compared white children to “killer cops.”

Via her podcast, she delivered the news:

“After years of resisting it, we’re going to leave the city. The schools have always been far-Left, which doesn’t align with my own ideology, but I didn’t really care, most of my friends are liberals. It’s fine. I come from a Democrat family, I’m not offended at all by the ideology, and I lean Center-Left on some things. … They’ve gone around the bend. They have gone off the deep end.”

We’re in transformative territory when a Democrat’s considered “conservative” — or anything close — for opposition such as that above.

The same might be said of an assertion that boys at an all-boys school be called…boys.

So far as I can tell, much of what’s contemporarily culturally occurring concerns, not so much ideology, but linguistics.

After all, a rose is a rose by any name.

And if that rose has a stem — if it’s on the property of a certain elite New York school — don’t label it male.
