It’s no secret that Fox News mainstay Sean Hannity’s a cozy compadre of President Trump, but Monday, Sean took a different position than The Donald on some very pro-2nd Amendment anti-lockdown protestors.
Sean made no bones about it — he’s good with guns:
“Now, no one is a bigger defender of the 2nd Amendment than Yours Truly. Everyone has the right to protest, protect themselves, and try to get the country open.”
However, concerning Michiganians sick of the shutdown showing up garbed like guerrillas, Hannity thinks that’s some monkeyin’ around:
“This, with the militia-look here and these long guns — uhh, no.”
To Sean, “Show of force is dangerous.”
Because:
“That puts our police at risk, and by the way, your message will never be heard, whoever you people are.”
To be sure, many Americans are fed up with the lockdown, and in Michigan, grip-tightening Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s appeared set on proving she’s Mrs. Big Pants.
As I reported April 30th:
During a press conference last Friday, Gretchen swore not to relinquish any power.
The Great Lakes State’s House of Representatives wants her to.
From that same article:
The Republican-led chamber rejected Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdown extension, which would keep the state shuttered ’til May 28th.
Additionally, it voted on a package of bills that would change the way the state deals with the pandemic.
Moreover, it approved a lawsuit in challenge to Gretchen’s authority.
The House passed bills aimed at replacing orders issued by the governor with laws passed via the normal legislative method.
It’s absolutely easy to see why Michigan residents have had it.
Does this look necessarily help things:
Here’s how the host put it:
“No one should be attempting to intimidate officials with a show of force, and God forbid something happens, then they’re gonna go after all of us law abiding 2nd Amendment people.”
Differing somewhat in his response, Trump backed the protestors who took to Michigan’s capitol last week:
“The Governor of Michigan should give a little, and put out the fire.”
“These are very good people, but they are angry,” the Commander-in-Chief offered. “They want their lives back again, safely! See them, talk to them, make a deal.”

I wouldn’t suggest the Leader of the Free World’s wrong about any of that.
But maybe standing outside a state building dressed as if you’re going to violently enact a coup (I’m referring to the person featured in the video above) — particularly when your protest is unrelated to gun ownership — isn’t the best way to accomplish your goal. Or be heard by those who aren’t already on your side.
I hope for resolution in Michigan. It certainly seems as if the governor would do well to listen to the people. Not just the armed ones outside her window, but all being kept from earning a living.
Ultimately, this is certainly an issue of survival. Being forcibly prevented from taking care of one’s family — like the virus, and as Sean proposed about a militia-like presentation — is dangerous.
