Luke Skywalker is sorry.
Mark Hamill — hero to millions of boys in the 80’s — apologized Thursday for click-endorsing remarks by another giant in the world of monumental moviedom, much-revered author J.K. Rowling.
The woman who created an astounding world of witchcraft and wizardry made a few statements Thursday, one of which indicated that “sex is real.”
Subsequently, she was #Canceled.
It all began with a woman named Maya Forstater.
Here’s the Independent with more:
[M]aya Forstater, 45…was fired from her job at poverty think-tank, Centre for Global Development, over a series of tweets questioning government plans to allow people to self-identify as another gender.
On Wednesday, Ms. Forstater took to Twitter to say she was in “shock and disbelief” at the judgement, which was handed down at the Central London Employment Tribunal.
Judgement received. Bad news (for now) Stonewall law won this round.
Here is my statement in thread form.
I struggle to express the shock and disbelief I feel at reading this judgmenthttps://t.co/g149gB7rJz

J.K. reacted with a post sent out to her 14.6 million followers.
It sounds to me as if she thought she was being quite the libertine:
Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) December 19, 2019
Apparently, though, she was uptighting it like a nut in a decisive move against science.
Here’s a rep from GLAAD:
“J.K. Rowling, whose books gave kids hope that they could work together to create a better world, has now aligned herself with an anti-science ideology that denies the basic humanity of people who are transgender. Trans men, trans women and non-binary people are not a threat, and to imply otherwise puts trans people at risk. Now is the time for allies who know and support trans people to speak up and support their fundamental right to be treated equally and fairly.”
Did J.K. get called out as a white supremacist?
This:
I’m not here to cancel JK Rowling as a person and stoke mob outrage. I’m just here to educate and inform. Trans rights are human rights and trans women are women. Also, white feminism can sometimes intersect with trans exclusion or white supremacy, which is unjust.

One user lamented the absence of “safety”:
As a gay man that found safety in Hogwarts throughout my childhood – knowing that Trans people wouldn’t be able to have that safety breaks my heart.
— Shahmir Sanni (@shahmiruk) December 19, 2019
But then, a turn of the tables:
What a ridiculous thing to say. As if this makes anyone 'unsafe'. Tell you what does though: being a woman standing up for our sex-based rights that feminists fought for because of male violence, to then loose our jobs when we speak the truth about who is male and who is female.

J.K. certainly received shows of support:
JK Rowlings is finding out science & facts are offensive & are therefore prohibited on the left. Only feelings rule & so she is now being cancelled by her own people. You can never be woke enough till you accept every last one of their fantasies as reality

The amount of emotional responses to this tweet exemplifies why this a ridiculous discussion – people thinking their emotions trump facts and logic.
The facts don't change because they offend you.
Biology doesn't cease to exist simply because it hurts your feelings.

Thank you, JK Rowling 👑

But not from Patricia Arquette — who I love:
I do not stand with Maya for many reasons.
— Patricia Arquette (@PattyArquette) December 19, 2019
I am not afraid of being raped by a trans woman in fact I’m afraid FOR trans women as they have the highest likelihood of being raped in any group. I’m afraid of rapist who are -everywhere sadly.

One Twitterer laid out a lesson on sufficiency:
As a cis queer woman with a trans sibling, it’s not enough to support the LGB community at the expense of the trans community.
— Ashly Perez (@itsashlyperez) December 19, 2019
But it was enough for Mark Hamill — at first.
He “liked” J.K.’s comment.
If I may say so, it’s a real bummer that society’s crumbled into the minutiae of scrutinizing what people give an approving touch to on their cell phone’s screen. Whatever the issue.
Anyway, upon further consideration, Mark tried to make it right:
Ignorance is no excuse, but I liked the tweet without understanding what the last line or hashtags meant. It was the 1st 4 lines I liked & I didn't realize it had any transphobic connotation. https://t.co/vefcuZEQF9

And this is where we are.
I remember a different world long ago — I went outside and played.
My friends and I explored the woods.
I rode my bike.
Yeah — better.
