DeSantis Shows How It's Done, Signs Florida's Own Version of the SAVE Act

It’s a simple notion: you should be required to show ID to vote in an election. You have to show identification to fly on an airplane, to buy a beer, and to do countless everyday tasks. It’s a proposition that 83 percent of the American public is in favor of — yet Democrats in Congress continue to dig in their heels and refuse to pass the SAVE Act, which would codify voter ID.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t sitting around waiting for feckless Democrats to do the right thing for a change, however; he’s taking matters into his own hands:

This legislation strengthens the security, transparency, and reliability of Florida’s election system.

The Florida SAVE Act builds on our historic successes by requiring the verification of U.S. citizenship for voter registration, updating identification requirements and enforcement tools, and expanding penalties for election-related violations—including foreign interference and petition-related misconduct.

We Need to Pass the SAVE America Act to Save America’s Elections From Fraud

Here’s a ridiculous headline from some outfit called “Democracy Docket”:

DeSantis attacks elections, signing Florida version of SAVE Act into law

Oh, please. The Dems have been trotting out their tired old “it’s Jim Crow 2.0!” talking points endlessly now, and nobody’s buying it, not even at least half of Democrat voters.

DeSantis continued:

In addition, this law brings greater transparency to the candidate qualifying process by requiring all candidates in Florida to disclose dual citizenship and requiring Congressional candidates to disclose stock trading activity.

In Florida, we will always stand up for election integrity and hold accountable the bad actors who would subvert our electoral processes.

It wouldn’t be today’s America, however, without leftist groups immediately filing lawsuits over almost every scrap of commonsense legislation:

The new law, most of which won't take effect until after the midterm elections, is Florida's version of the federal SAVE America Act, a bill President Donald Trump has championed. That measure is currently stalled in the U.S. Senate, where it lacks the 60 votes needed to advance under current rules.

Democrats and voting rights advocates warn Florida's law will disenfranchise eligible voters who lack ready access to the documents that are needed to vote.

Already, the League of Women Voters of Florida and a coalition of advocacy groups, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, have filed a federal lawsuit to block the law.

The lawsuit, which includes a who’s who of liberal groups as plaintiffs, trots out the usual tired tropes about how people are too stupid to get an ID, even when almost everybody living here legally has one just to be able to navigate a normal life.

Florida joins South Dakota, New Hampshire, Louisiana, Wyoming, and Arizona among the states that have already enacted SAVE‑like laws. Kansas has one too, but it’s tied up in litigation.

DeSantis is proving, like those other states, that sometimes you don’t need to wait for do-nothing Democrats to get something done; just do it yourself.

Editor's Note: The Democrats are doing everything in their power to undermine the integrity of our elections.
