As I covered previously, they’ll be no $5 billion for Trump’s wall on Friday. For more on that, see here, here, and here.
Last night, the President tweeted reassurance over the wall’s construction, not only saying it’ll get done, but that it’ll be “beautiful” and save billions of dollars:
“The Democrats, are saying loud and clear that they do not want to build a Concrete Wall – but we are not building a Concrete Wall, we are building artistically designed steel slats, so that you can easily see through it. It will be beautiful and, at the same time, give our Country the security that our citizens deserve. It will go up fast and save us BILLIONS of dollars a month once completed! America is the greatest Country in the world and my job is to fight for ALL citizens, even those who have made mistakes. Congratulations to the Senate on the bi-partisan passing of a historic Criminal Justice Reform Bill. This will keep our communities safer, and provide hope and a second chance, to those who earn it. In addition to everything else, billions of dollars will be saved. I look forward to signing this into law! In our Country, so much money has been poured down the drain, for so many years, but when it comes to Border Security and the Military, the Democrats fight to the death. We won on the Military, which is being completely rebuilt. One way or the other, we will win on the Wall! Mexico is paying (indirectly) for the Wall through the new USMCA, the replacement for NAFTA! Far more money coming to the U.S. Because of the tremendous dangers at the Border, including large scale criminal and drug inflow, the United States Military will build the Wall!”

As it stands (or doesn’t), the greatest obstacle to border security is a growing number of Democrats who are seemingly reluctant to do anything in favor of acknowledging the fact that we are our own country apart from Mexico. Oddly, the side which fervently claims to be pro-immigration is in opposition to protecting the very relevance of our (legal) immigration system (here). If we won’t keep illegals out, why would legals wait to come in?
Way to go, goobs.
Speaking of relevance, Fox contributor Charles Hurt made a lot of sense on Wednesday’s Hannity:
“I think that, if you talk to people that have studied this for a long time…funding the wall has never been the real big problem here. The real problem is the will to actually do the hard work of putting up a wall and taking those votes. The only thing we have found out in the last two weeks is that Democrats that are coming into control…in Congress have vowed to shut the government down instead of doing something about fixing the border. And whether you call it a wall, or a fence, or President’s wonderful description of it…it is a barrier that prevents people from illegally crossing into the United States. And Democrats have made it very clear that they’re on the side of opposing that. And President Trump and Republicans have made it very clear they’re on the side of supporting that. And even Democrats who supported…the 2006 Fence Act — which did basically the same thing, which was to build a barrier to keep people from sneaking into the country illegally — even a lot of those Democrats have now been pulled by the left wing of their party over into this no-borders, anti-ICE, sanctuary-city crowd that opposes doing anything about the border.”
Right-o. It is that very anti-true-immigration stance which is to blame for the migrant caravan, though Democrats blame Trump (here). That’s a good thing they got goin’ over there: Create a problem, and then blame the opposition for it.
Incidentally, supporters of the Fence Act included Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Barack Obama. The Democratic prez before Barack even stood firm against illegal immigration via a very Trumpian speech (here). My, it’s getting cold — there’s a drift in here.
As the party of the Ass continues to battle the party of the Elephant, it seems to want to align more accurately with its mascot.
Hopefully, in the end, the vision of a beautifully secure country will win out. Not because illegal immigrants are less good than we are; but because legal immigration is much greater than the chaos of a porous line. Trump could make it happen, and he’s the only one — over the next six years — who’s got a shot. He’s the foreman, the Leader of the Pack(yderm). If only those on Capitol Hill could all agree that we need a well-guarded nation, Washington would seem less like a place full of donkeys.
Here’s to hoping.
