Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Features Its First Same-Sex Kiss

Wednesday was a big day for news: first a vaccine for Alzheimer’s (here), then this.

During the 92nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade — a source of fond memories, perhaps, from your magical-holiday childhood — the national audience was treated to a big wet kiss. Of the same-sex variety.

And it made history.

There’s a first time for everything.

The liplock happened during a performance from the Broadway music The Prom.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly:

“The cast of Broadway’s The Prom musical gave the LGBTQ community something to be thankful for on Thanksgiving Day.”

Does two gay people kissing during the parade really give some other gay person somewhere else a reason to be thankful? Or is that wholly goofy?

For all the Left’s talk about community as related to black people and gay people, there really is no “community” of people with similar turn-ons or skin color. We’re all just epidermis’d, aroused dust in the wind.

But I digress — and I got distracted by the fact that someone who loves Elvis said so in a parade. I love Elvis, too (here and here), so it gave me something to be thankful for.

Because, you know, community.

Anyway, more:

“Actors, including leads Caitlin Kinnunen and Isabelle McCalla, burst out of the theater and into the streets for Macy’s big holiday parade Thursday. Closing out their performance of the big number, Kinnunen and McCalla shared a kiss on live television, which appears to be the first same-sex kiss in the parade’s history.”

Cast member Josh Lamon was super psyched:

“The first #LGBTQ kiss in the Parade’s history. We here at @ThePromMusical have never been so proud. #LoveIsLove“

The production was thankful, too — to Macy’s and NBC for supporting the cause.

“How,” you might ask? Cause o’ this:

“The Prom tells the story of high schooler Emma (Kinnunen) in small-town Indiana who wants to take her girlfriend Alyssa (McCalla) to the prom, but the small-minded PTA decides to cancel the dance altogether. When theater stars get wind of this, they head on down Emma’s way for support — though, they may have other reasons for whipping up some positive PR.”

Small-minded!

That sounds kind of like a gay Footloose.

If you’re not as excited as Entertainment Weekly, you know what you are; EW knows, too — you’re suffering. From a phobia:

“Sure, the same-sex kiss sparked homophobic remarks on social media, but it brought joy to many others.”

But Macy’s ain’t!

“’At Macy’s, we are guided by our corporate values of Acceptance, Respect, Integrity and Giving Back,’ a rep for Macy’s told EW. ‘We hope that viewers found the 92nd Annual Parade entertaining with its traditional mix of signature balloons, fantastic floats and performances from the nation’s best marching bands and musical acts. We look forward to next year.’”
