Build the Wall by...Not Building the Wall? Congressional Republicans Eye Postponement 'til the Red Wave

You wanted a wall? You got a wall!

At some point.

Probably.

As November approaches and vote-hungry Republicans scramble like Pac-Man with all four ghosts on the rampage (as covered here and here), all those Mans supported by PACs are considering a pause in the fight over federally funding a great big partition (similar to the one I write about here).

On Friday, Senate Majority Head Honcho (not his official title) Mitch McConnell said fisticuffs over federal funding is “probably” gonna be postponed.

Speaking to Kentucky radio station WHAS, McConnell had this to say:

“Probably, and that’s something we do have a disagreement on.”

This past week, McConnell, along with Speaker Paul Ryan, met with Trump to talk money. Congress has ’til the end of September to pass funding. Otherwise, the government will shut down for a third time this year.

The wall is an impediment to the smooth sailing of a budget agreement — the House and the Senate have been divided over the issue.

Check this out:

The Senate Appropriations Committee gave approval for a $1.6 billion border bill. The House Appropriations way outdid them: $5 billion.

The Senate needs Democrats’ agreement, and the Dems have called Five Big Ones a “non-starter.”

Ryan had also indicated this past week that the border bout may be pushed back past September’s deadline:

“The president’s willing to be patient to make sure that we get what we need so we can that done. … [Funding the wall is] not a question of if, it’s a question of when.”

Early talk of a wall seems eons ago. Why the frick hasn’t anything happened yet? We’ll see if congressional Republicans know what they’re doing — they believe pressing the issue could result in losses in November; if they rack up in the midterms, by contrast, everything’ll be easy as pie. However, if November goes badly, we may never see a wall at all. It’s a risk, either way.

Aah, they probably know what they’re doing; after all, they’re Washington politicians.
