A couple weeks ago, I posted this item about Pennsylvania Rep. Bill Shuster, Trump endorser extraordinaire, who is under fire for pushing legislation that explicitly does his girlfriend’s employer’s bidding (she’s a lobbyist, by the way)— legislation that is being condemned by a host of conservative players, including Heritage Action and which has led to Shuster getting trashed by his hometown paper over ethics issues.
Shuster barely squeaked his primary, and now, it turns out his primary opponent— Art Halvorson, a Tea Party guy– is looking to run as a Democrat in order to try to oust Shuster. That’s how bad his opponent, who presumably has some things in common with conservatives reading this here post, thinks Shuster is.
In Shuster’s rebuke to his former primary opponent for being willing to go Dem to try to get him out of office, his spokesperson notes that Shuster will be “will be working hard to elect Donald Trump, whom Art Halvorson has called reprehensible, childish, and embarrassing, to the White House.”
Just in case you needed an extra reminder that Shuster seems to be wrong about more than just how to manage conflicts of interest impacting his work as Transportation Committee Chairman.
The House GOP leadership should be watching this guy. There is a lot to suggest he could become a problem child the way many ethically-challenged Republicans did heading into 2006— and as a further reminder, ethics and corruption were the final nail in the GOP’s coffin that year.
Also, it bears repeating, he endorsed Trump.
