Alex Mistri is managing director of The Glover Park Group who describe themselves as “an independent, strategic communications firm that delivers research-driven, targeted campaigns that draw attention, shape opinions and inspire action.”

Recently, part of that advocacy was aimed at “congressional outreach” on behalf of the well known and now bankrupt company, Solyndra.

In the third quarter of this year, Mistri was one of a group of Glover Park lobbyists Solyndra hired to help with congressional outreach. According to a financial disclosure filing, the purpose of the contract was to introduce company officials to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Unfortunately for the Glover Park Group, Solydnra was on the fast track to oblivion and they were never paid for their services, small as they may have been.

It’s quickly apparent however, that a ‘green’ company such as Solyndra would’ve been right up their alley.

For example, their work at The Alliance for Climate Protection, an organization hell bent on “solving the problem,” which mostly means carbon trading, helped craft messages for the group, such as:

Some people say the answer to our energy future lies in the past.  They want to burn more oil and more dirty coal.  Problem with that is it burns carbon, and carbon gases are killing God’s green earth.  There’s a better way – wind, sun, a new energy grid.  Imagine plugging your pick-up in and driving around hell’s half acre on clean energy made right here in America.  The boys in Tehran might not like it.  But in Tuscon – and across the U.S. – it just makes sense.

Sounds an awful lot like the current administrations thoughts on coal, doesn’t it?  Oh yeah, and the Alliance for Climate Protection was founded by none other than fear-peddler extraordinaire Al Gore.

They also helped Avoided Deforestation Partners, another climate change environmental group, the AFL-CIO, Air Traffic Controllers Union, United Federation of Teachers, as well as abortion advocates from the Campaign for Women’s Lives.

So what would cause Mr. Mistri to be a donor to Governor Romney, both directly to his campaign as well as through donations to the Romney’s Free and Strong America Pac?   Republicans, after all, stand against just about their entire portfolio.

At least most Republicans do.  Mitt Romney?  Not so much.

As Streiff noted a few weeks ago:

In 2003, Romney chose a hard core environmental activist to be Secretary of Commonwealth Development. In this position he was charged with developing a scheme to restrict “greenhouse gas” emissions.

Another Romney environmental adviser in the effort to regulate “greenhouse gases” is now Obama’s Director of Science and Technology Policy, John Holdren. Dr. Holdren has some exotic views.

President Obama’s “science czar,” John Holdren, once floated the idea of forced abortions, “compulsory sterilization,” and the creation of a “Planetary Regime” that would oversee human population levels and control all natural resources as a means of protecting the planet — controversial ideas his critics say should have been brought up in his Senate confirmation hearings.

Those plans include forcing single women to abort their babies or put them up for adoption; implanting sterilizing capsules in people when they reach puberty; and spiking water reserves and staple foods with a chemical that would make people sterile.

To help achieve those goals, they formulate a “world government scheme” they call the Planetary Regime, which would administer the world’s resources and human growth, and they discuss the development of an “armed international organization, a global analogue of a police force” to which nations would surrender part of their sovereignty.

The crowned jewel of Romney’s green past is undoubtedly Gina McCarthy, whom Romney referred to as his “green quarterback.”

McCarthy now has a high position in the out of control EPA and is an ardent support of the MACT rule which I’ve written about several times.  The entire purpose of the MACT rule is essentially to destabilize or otherwise destroy the coal industry to help usher in the green revolution of which companies like Solydnra were supposed to spearhead.

Things obviously didn’t work out that way.

In typical Romney fashion, the former Massachusetts Governor has toned down his talk on man made global warming as he tries to attract a base that is having a very difficult time warming up to him.

Of government funded debacles like Solydra, he says,”It’s not merely that government bureaucrats are bad at picking winners.  The very process invites cronyism and outright corruption”

He seemed to feel differently the last time he was in an executive role:

In 2003, Romney launched the Massachusetts Green Energy Fund, a $15 million project aimed at providing “an opportunity to capitalize on two emerging trends: the growing level of investment interest in clean energy and the importance of Massachusetts’ academic and corporate R&D in forming clean energy technology companies,” according to its website.

So perhaps it’s no great mystery after all.  If I were a managing partner at a mostly democratic consultancy, and I saw his history of supporting lefty causes like climate change legislation, his love of big government takeovers like RomneyCare, and his willingness to use taxpayer money to fund experimental green ventures (playfully referred to in these parts as “Venture Socialism”), I’d probably hedge my bets as well and at least throw some dough at Mitt Romney.

After all, what’s the real difference?
