Democrats in Maine Are Going Too Far — Even for Them

Well, you may have heard the news recently coming out of Maine – Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate, Graham Platner, the wealthy Bernie Bros veteran cosplaying as a “Maine oyster farmer,” may be a real-life Nazi?

Which is to distinguish Platner from being a conservative who is dishonestly smeared as a Nazi by the Democrats and/or MSM.

The main evidence that Platner may be a Nazi comes from the fact that he has a tattoo in the shape of the Totenkopf, or “death’s head” symbol, on his chest.  This tattoo, which was adopted by Hitler’s SS during the Nazi era and became particularly associated with the branch guarding concentration camps, is normally worn by real Nazis.

Now, Platner claims that while he was in the military, drunk, on a lark, he and his fellows decided to get tattoos, and he didn’t know what the tattoo meant when he chose it.  Others strongly dispute his story, however.

In a recent interview, Platner said that he was “not a secret Nazi," thus leaving open the possibility that he is, in fact, an “open Nazi.”

We probably should have figured out Platner’s Nazi status earlier. We might have noticed that Platner spends a lot of time fixating on the alleged "evils" of Israel and the Jews, which is usually a good indication that a person may be a Nazi.

Also, we should have observed that Platner is a member of a socialist gun club, and contrary to Soviet propaganda that still obscures the truth to the MSM, the Nazis were left-wing socialists. The official name of the Nazis was “The National Socialist German Workers’ Party,” and the Party controlled/directed German business decisions, although, unlike the communists, it did not nationalize businesses.

Granted, it is not clear that Graham Platner is a “nationalist,” as in a person who favors the U.S. over other nations. So, maybe rather than being a Nazi, he is just an “International Socialist” who hates Jews? Or, maybe he is the communist he has also claimed to be. Communists often hate Jews as well (see Stalin).

None of this Nazi news means that Platner is out of the running for the Senate Democrat nomination. He is not the establishment favorite, of course – that is Janet Mills, the 77-year-old governor of the state, whose opposition research team almost certainly exposed Platner’s dirty little “secret.” But Platner is probably running second in the primary right now and may still win; being an actual Nazi is not a dealbreaker for the Democrat base.

Now, let’s further discuss the U.S. Senate race in Maine.

Maine: Susan Collins / 50.98% R / Lean R

Susan Collins is the 72-year-old, five-term Republican U.S. Senator in Maine. She is a throwback to another era; the only Republican senator who represents a state that is solidly Democratic. Collins is widely known to be a moderate Republican, and as a result has developed a unique popularity in her home state.

In 2020, Collins won by a solid margin in a presidential year where Donald Trump lost the state by a 53 percent to 44 percent margin. All the polling that year showed that Collins was going to lose that race (some showing her losing by substantial amounts).

Three main Democrats are hoping to challenge Collins in 2026. I have already mentioned Mills and Platner; the third is Jordan Wood, a former aide who worked for the meanest former Democrat congresswoman, Katie Porter. Mills has raised $1 million, while Platner has over $4 million, and Wood has over $3 million.

We know how the Democrat primary is going to end up – a vicious slugfest. “Socialist” (i.e., communist) Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) – who endorsed Platner – has vowed vengeance against the “corrupt campaign finance system” and Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who got Mills into the race and is funding her opposition researchers. Schumer objected to Platner because Platner had pledged to vote against Schumer for leader.

This leaves Jordan Wood in a great situation. Platner can be expected to turn all his fire onto Mills. Mills, no doubt, will respond in kind. Wood, meanwhile, can build up his positives by producing fluffy commercials showing him being kind to people while hating on Trump, and watch the negatives for his opponents soar.

Which is exactly how the Feingold Maneuver works. In 1992, it ended with Russ Feingold, who started as a nobody behind two more prominent Senate primary opponents, winning 70 percent of the Democrat vote. But is that how this Democrat primary is going to end up? Maybe, but chances are Platner and/or Mills will notice that Woods is avoiding the mud and loop him into the action. And then all bets are off.

The winner of the June 9, 2026, Democrat primary will then face Sen. Collins. While the primary campaign is ongoing, Collins is stockpiling money. She has $6.7 million cash on hand, having raised $1.2 million in the last period. Collins, as the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, can also be expected to flood federal money to her home state to sponsor all sorts of popular projects.

This is exactly what former Democrat Sen. Bob Byrd of West Virginia did, and it solidified him in the Senate during his later years when he was barely conscious and his party was losing its appeal with the state’s voters.

Collins has also mastered the ability to make herself “the crucial, deciding vote” in the Senate and to use this status to please her constituents. I recognize her unique talent well, having already observed something like it up close when I worked for former Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. But unlike my old boss, Collins is known for being with the GOP when it matters, according to my other old boss, former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum (PA).

Each of the Democrats has their own unique weaknesses that Collins can exploit. Mills is older than Collins and has vowed to serve only one term, thereby conceding the seniority argument. Also, older candidates tend to be less energetic. Woods is a longtime Washington, D.C., swamp denizen and congressional staffer who lives in a $3 million Bristol mansion with his husband.

And Platner, of course, may be a Nazi.

Unless the economy takes a yuge turn for the worse, I suspect that Susan Collins is destined for a record sixth term in the U.S. Senate.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
