Every conflict wears several faces, and one of those faces always has "propaganda" tattooed across its forehead. The political Left, from Lenin to Mamdani, has always been pretty good at cooking up and disseminating propaganda to its sycophants, and even a nation as dysfunctional and deluded as North Korea can find people in the developed world who will soak up their horse squeeze without question.
The problem is, even North Korea seems to be reaching further into the United States with its pro-commie propaganda efforts. Furthermore, there are some familiar names involved in some of their efforts to influence our homegrown useful idiots.
One of the key players here is a 501(c)(3) organization called Nodutdol, which is Korean for "stepping stone." City Journal Stu Smith has some information on that group and their nefarious pro-Nork activities.
Nodutdol (Korean for “stepping stone”)—a 501(c)(3) organization that advocates for a Marxist future on the Korean Peninsula and calls for “a world free of imperialism, and for Korea’s re/unification and national liberation”—sits at the center of this network. Nodutdol’s organizational history dates back to 1999, including years of sending delegations to North Korea, some led by CUNY professor Betsy Yoon, one of the organization’s directors and co-steward of its archives.
Nodutdol leaders view the 2020 George Floyd protests, as well as the rising popularity of Korean culture through K-pop and K-dramas, as the seeds of a new organizational mindset. “As organizers, we see it as our role to take that sort of like general cultural interest into the like history of resistance and anti-imperialist struggle,” Nodutdol’s Jamie Tyberg noted in an interview with Communist TikTok influencer (and Nuestra America convoy participant) Madeline Pendleton.
Some of us suspected that last paragraph all along: The 2020 "Summer of Love" riots were the product of the far left. And it seems likely that these groups will try to use this as a stepping stone (hah) to more communist activity and more civil unrest in the United States.
Nodutdol isn't the only group like this out there.
Nodutdol is not the only group in the pro-North Korea Left. Koreans 4 Decolonization has been particularly active on college campuses. Seattle’s Haebang Collective draws heavily from Nodutdol’s resources, as reflected in its political education materials. Nikkei Vancouver for Justice, a Canada-based organization, appears to collaborate more closely with the International League of Peoples’ Struggle—an international organization linked to the Communist Party of the Philippines—than with Nodutdol itself, though the organizations remain broadly aligned in their pro-North Korean political outlook.
Note that this account hasn't yet mentioned the United States, other than with regard to the 2020 riots. But there's a familiar name involved with the funding of these organizations.
Nodutdol also recently led a delegation to South Korea, the Jaju Solidarity Brigade. Participants included members of Neville Roy Singham-funded organizations such as Code Pink, the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and BreakThrough News, alongside the Freedom Road Socialist Organization (FRSO), Bayan, Qiao Collective, the Fergie Chambers-funded news outlet Sovereign Media, Nodutdol director Betsy Yoon, and several other groups. While formal delegation report-backs are still forthcoming, social media posts have already provided some insight into the delegation and its activities.
Yep; there's that name that keeps popping up when we talk about the funding sources of communist activities in the United States: Neville Roy Singham, the former American businessman, now Shanghai-based leftist activist whose network is suspected of funding communist efforts in the United States and elsewhere. Singham is reported to work closely with North Korea's patron state, China, and has previously funded Chinese propaganda efforts in the United States.
Singham isn't the only wealthy commie plying these waters, but he's one of the biggest fish.
So, what's to be done about it? Interestingly, Iran may have shown us the way - or rather, the Treasury Department's actions against Iran, in the form of Operation Economic Outcast. The Treasury and the DOJ have already shown their capability in finding overseas goblins' transactions and shutting them down. This is the model. There are, yes, legal aspects and due process to be followed; we aren't technically at war with North Korea or China, at least not yet. But the Department of Justice (DOJ) is already looking into Singham's activities. That investigation is still ongoing, but the laundry list of pro-China, pro-North Korea groups should give the DOJ an enlarged list of targets.
These people, through groups like Code Pink, are trying to reach the American left, and the real danger is that they are targeting American academia, too, and the leftward-leaning tendencies of American university students mean that pro-North Korea groups may find fertile ground in American academia.
The facts are these: There is no more vicious and odious a nation on the planet than North Korea, except, possibly, Iran. As the United States takes steps to take down Iran, we should be aware that North Korea is still out there, that they are trying to extend their influence into the United States, right here, right now, and unlike Iran, they are already a nuclear power, one that executes dissenters by placing them before anti-aircraft guns. They are seeking to influence us. Our people. Our country. Our government.
Shutting down their web of support would go a long way towards dealing with this problem before it becomes worse.
