China, we are reminded continually, is not a friend to the United States. The Middle Kingdom may be a trading partner, even a valuable one, but that doesn't make them our friend. They are, at best, a rival; at worst, an enemy. Right now they would seem to be certainly an adversary, not in the least because of their continued efforts to influence American education, to make large land purchases which always seem to be near major American military installations, and perhaps most of all, to infiltrate their people illegally into the United States.
The latest such incident was in Florida, where the United States Coast Guard intercepted a smuggling boat carrying 25 Chinese nationals; when the boat refused to stop for the Coast Guard hails, the Coasties disabled the boat with gunfire and took the Chinese nationals into custody. Sharp work.
In a stark warning that U.S. borders are closed "by land or sea," the U.S. Coast Guard opened fire to disable a noncompliant vessel attempting to smuggle 25 Chinese nationals into the country off the coast of Florida.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Fox News Digital that on June 10, a boat carrying 25 illegal immigrants from China refused to comply with Coast Guard orders to stop one mile south of Key Biscayne.
Crews from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach initially deployed warning shots, but when those proved ineffective, they used "disabling fire" to successfully halt the vessel, according to DHS. No injuries were reported.
It's not clear from the reporting, but presumably the Coast Guard fire was aimed at the smuggling boat's engine. The photos in the Fix story show what appears to be a recreational vessel with multiple outboard engines, which would make for easy targets; destroying those would bring the boat to a quick stop. The engines don't appear to show any obvious damage, but one or two bullets would be enough to stop them from running.
Following the interdiction, the Chinese nationals were transferred to the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell for processing, and their boat was seized and towed to Station Miami Beach.
Special agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations launched a criminal investigation into the attempted entry, with assistance from Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations.
DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis delivered a stern warning following the bust.
"This sends a clear message to illegal aliens attempting to enter the United States: don’t even think about it," Bis told Fox News Digital. "By land or sea, our borders are CLOSED."
Whether China receives that message five-by-five is less clear.

Now, there's no indication that the Chinese government is responsible for these 25 attempted illegal immigrants being where they were, when they were. But they had to get there somehow; Florida is a long way from China, and if we know one thing about Communist China, it's that very little goes in with Chinese nationals without Beijing having a hand in it, or at least knowing about it. The number of Chinese nationals in the country already stands as high as 400,000, and the numbers increased constantly throughout the unfortunate Biden presidency, with numbers of Chinese nationals entering illegally estimated at 2,000 to 24,000 in fiscal year (FY) 2022, 24,000 to 52,000 in FY 2023, and 38,000 at the southwest border alone in FY 2024.
On Wednesday, though, the number attempting entry was reduced by 25, and that, at least, is good news.
