The epidemic of street takeovers is spreading from the cities into the suburbs. An illegal street takeover in Queens has resulted in a local couple being severely beaten, a car burned, and - get this - one goblin arrested.

New York City authorities have made an arrest in the caught-on-camera illegal street takeover that ended with a couple being brutally beaten and a neighbor’s car being set ablaze by a group of rowdy drivers.

Justin Aguilera, 19, is facing a slew of charges, including gang assault, riot, assault and trespassing, City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, who represents the neighborhood, said in a social media post Thursday.

One guy? They arrested one guy? How quickly did the police respond to this? We can hope that one goblin who was arrested is not the last one. Justin Aguilera is in some serious trouble, but he should be in a cell with a lot of company from that event.

The charges stem from a violent car meet-up in the Queens neighborhood of Malba around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 23, in which a husband and wife were allegedly attacked in the front yard of their home, according to police. Aguilera was the "main assault perpetrator," according to Paladino

"We all saw the blurry videos," Paladino said. "You know how hard it was to track a car and to track the [license] plate? [It] didn't come easy, but they got the job done. We're just getting started, but it's a hell of a way to start."

What in the world makes these goblins think this is acceptable behavior?

Like so many of these street takeovers - let's be real and call them riots - there was not only car stunts, but arson and assault. One neighborhood resident remonstrated with the goblins for hanging out in his yard; he and his wife were beaten, the man left with a broken nose, ribs, and shoulder. Another man tried to break up the party by parking his own car in the middle of an intersection, but the rioters descended on it and set it afire.

It's not clear what role Justin Aguilera played in this. We know that he is accused of being an instigator of the gang assault on the homeowner couple. Was he an organizer? Or just one of the thugs? If he were an organizer, he should be charged appropriately. Organizing a riot should lead to some serious time looking at steel bars from the wrong side, and indeed, capturing, prosecuting, and imprisoning these organizers may be the only way to forestall these idiotic events. These aren't youthful hijinks; these are acts of assault, arson, reckless endangerment, and it's only a matter before someone is killed.

Queens is looking to also engage in some infrastructure fixes to try to deter these goblins from trying this again.

Transportation and theNYPD to determine new infrastructure additions to help combat similar street takeovers.

"This is not over," Paladino said. "And I am not going to let this go until everyone involved faces consequences."

Rioting is a serious offense. The consequences must be equally serious, or these kinds of things will just keep happening.
