There's Another Big, Beautiful Bill in the Works: What Might Be in It?

A "Republican study group" is looking at options for another One Big Beautiful Bill. The first OBBB was massive, wide-ranging, and, as we might expect, it passed through House and Senate by a narrow margin. But it's done now - so what might be in a second OBBB?

The 189-member Republican Study Committee is looking into just that.

House Republicans are already discussing contours for a potential second "big, beautiful bill" advancing President Donald Trump's agenda.

The Republican Study Committee (RSC), the 189-member-strong group that acts as a de facto "think tank" for the House GOP, is launching a working group to look at what a second budget reconciliation bill would look like, Fox News Digital has learned.

It's the largest organized effort so far by congressional Republicans to follow through on GOP leaders' hopes for a second massive agenda bill.

At this point, we'd only be speculating as to what might be in a second OBBB (hopefully more defunding), but the winds would seem to be at the backs of the president and the GOP in Congress. The question is how much they can get done before the midterms.

That seems to be the operating assumption of the RSC.

"We must capitalize on the momentum we’ve generated in the first 6 months of a Republican trifecta in Washington," RSC Chairman August Pfluger, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital. "To fulfill the promises we made to the American people, conservatives must begin laying the groundwork for the second reconciliation bill to ensure we continue to drive down the cost of living and restore America’s promise for future generations."

If this is going to happen - if Congressional Republicans are going to take on another Big, Beautiful Bill - what will they call this one? "OBBB 2, The Sequel?" "OBBB Mk II?" "OBBB 2, This Time It's Personal"?

In the meantime, Congress is still looking at future, smaller reconciliation bills.

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told "Sunday Morning Futures" earlier this month that he was eyeing multiple reconciliation bills.

"With President Trump coming back to the White House, and us having the responsibility for fixing every metric of public policy that Biden and Harris and the Democrats destroyed over the previous four years –  so the big beautiful bill was the first big step in that," he told host Maria Bartiromo.

"But we have multiple steps ahead of us. We have long planned for at least two, possibly three, reconciliation bills, one in the fall and one next spring."

As a matter of principle, a lot of Republicans and rightward-leaning independents would no doubt prefer to see more, smaller, individual bills rather than one enormous package. There is, however, the time factor. If the economic gains the country has seen since January continue, if the trade deals finalize as expected, if the price of everything from gasoline to eggs keeps coming down, the Republicans should do well in the midterms.

But they would be smart not to bet the farm on it. Elections are fickle things, and so are the voters. Getting what they can do, as quickly as they can do it - that would be the smart play, for the president and Congress both.
