Stephen Miller's Searing Take on Mayor Bass's Threats

This mess in the Los Angeles area is still going on, and Democrat politicians are still dissembling about the events in that city and what has been enabling the rioters and rebels to keep up their attacks. One of the worst is Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. We've covered her remarks here and will continue to do so. Still, she and California Governor Gavin Newsom are getting some serious pushback from the Trump administration, including, notably, Deputy White House Chief of Staff for Policy and National Security Advisor Stephen Miller. On Tuesday, Mr. Miller took to his official X account to defenestrate the LA mayor on the issue of the rioting.

The X post continues:

This is the definition of insurrection. LA and CA leadership demand the right to illegally import unlimited foreigners into America, to control America’s entire immigration policy by fiat — and if they are not so permitted they will allow mobs to target ICE with impunity.

Los Angeles and California are demanding the nullification of the election results, of federal law, of national sovereignty, and of the bedrock constitutional command of one national government.

Mr. Miller is correct, and it's as I've been saying and writing since this whole thing blew up: This is the definition of insurrection. The people on the streets in the Los Angeles area, the ones throwing rocks and shooting fireworks at cops, are in rebellion against the lawful authority in place. They are, by definition, rebels, and should be defined as and treated as such. This is a crime under 18 USC 2383: Rebellion or insurrection, which states:

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

That's what's happening in the Los Angeles area right now.

Note also that the statute includes a provision for those who provide "aid or comfort thereto." You could make a strong argument that Mayor Bass, with her outspoken resistance to federal authorities, with her insistence that ICE and the National Guard leave the city, is doing precisely that.

This isn't an issue of federalism. I'm as staunch a supporter as you'll find for federalism and keeping as much government as close to the individual voters as possible. But immigration enforcement and border security are defined roles of the federal government, and the Border Patrol, ICE, and Homeland Security are now the designated agencies that enforce our immigration law.

Mayor Bass is treading on very dangerous ground here. She and Governor Newsom need to take a long, hard look at what they are advocating for, and not only because it threatens to send the Democratic Party into an electoral tailspin in 2026.

Stephen Miller makes some excellent points here. It's time some of these so-called officials started being held accountable for their support of this insurrection.

Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
