It appears the fallout over President Trump's removal of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) horse squeeze from the federal government is still showing up in the various departments and agencies. The policy put in place by the president is moving along, but in some cases, the people charged with carrying out that policy are dragging their feet - or, possibly, committing acts of malicious compliance. It's unknown what is behind the removal of some information about conspicuous American heroes from the Pentagon's online presence, but that material is now being restored.
‼️The Pentagon is republishing the following content online after it was removed (either deliberately or by mistake):
— Kristina Wong 🇺🇸 (@kristina_wong) March 19, 2025
— The Tuskegee Airmen
— The Enola Gay
— Navajo Code Talkers
— WASPs
— History -making female fighter pilots
— Jackie Robinson
— The Marines at Iwo Jima

The X post continues, with a statement from Pentagon Press Secretary John Ullyot:
“As Secretary Hegseth has said, DEI is dead at the Defense Department. Discriminatory Equity Ideology is a form of Woke cultural Marxism that has no place in our military. It Divides the force, Erodes unit cohesion and Interferes with the services’ core warfighting mission. We are pleased by the rapid compliance across the Department with the directive removing DEI content from all platforms. In the rare cases that content is removed -- either deliberately or by mistake -- that is out of the clearly outlined scope of the directive, we instruct the components and they correct the content accordingly.”
As of this writing, on the Department of Defense website, there are several pages dedicated to the Tuskegee Airmen, the Navajo Code Talkers, and WASP personnel.
The Department of Defense has not released any information about how or why the information listed was deleted if indeed it was; the official statement makes no such admission, merely referring to the removal of DEI content and the disclaimer that "In the rare cases that content is removed..." may be deliberately or by mistake.

There is no admission of either.
There is an old military aphorism, one usually attributed to the E-4 Mafia that all of our branches of service have in one form or another, and that is that if the troops want to get rid of a bad NCO or officer, they can do so by mindlessly following their order to the letter, and doing nothing else. It often works. Government bureaucracies, no doubt, have personnel that may well likewise follow this practice of malicious compliance. There's no evidence that this is what happened here, at the Pentagon, but in the vast (and largely unconstitutional) scope of the federal government, when ordered to undo something as pervasive as DEI, there are bound to be some instances of just this. If the system works as we hope, the people engaged in this will be identified and, if there's any sense to any of this, will find themselves in the unemployment line.
Meanwhile, the Defense Department appears to be restoring the contested content. (Say that three times fast.)
