On Friday, Columbia University's Interim President, Katrina Armstrong, released a statement responding to the Trump administration's yanking of $400 million in federal funding over the treatment of Jewish students on that campus by pro-Hamas rioters.
As expected from an ivory-tower academic, the statement was a masterpiece at talking a lot without saying anything.
Today, we were notified of federal action from Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Education (ED), and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) cancelling $400 million in federal funding to the University. The federal agencies cite “the school’s continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students.”
There is no question that the cancellation of these funds will immediately impact research and other critical functions of the University, impacting students, faculty, staff, research, and patient care.
Given the university's inaction in the face of the riotous behavior by some of their students, along with these people's harassment and threatening behavior towards other students - particularly Jewish ones - I can only reply to that with "tough noogies."
She continues:
But let me be very clear: Columbia is taking the government’s action very seriously. I want to assure the entire Columbia community that we are committed to working with the federal government to address their legitimate concerns. To that end, Columbia can, and will, continue to take serious action toward combatting antisemitism on our campus.
This is our number one priority.
It is? Since when? Since your last president was forced to resign over her utter failure to prevent the harassment of Jewish students? Since a pro-Hamas student group made open calls for violence against Jewish students? Since pro-Hamas students published a hate rag called "Columbia Intifada" condoning anti-semitism and hatred of Jews?
All of these things happened. And more where that came from.

Unsurprisingly, the Columbia Jewish Alumni Association had some sharp words in reply:
Columbia leadership released its response to losing $400M in Federal funding today. At 800+ words, it manages to communicate nothing.

When we went to @Columbia, you had to be a better thinker - and a better writer - than this. pic.twitter.com/xDNoWfOtsi
The rot has set in very deep at Columbia. It's amazing what the state of the American educational system has come to; these students, these riotous young skulls full of mush, are calling for genocide. It's tempting to say they simply don't understand the issue - especially the "Queers for Palestine" nitwits, who would likely be chucked off a roof in Gaza - but there's too much in their behavior that mirrors the actual statements and acts of Hamas, Hezbollah and other jihadi groups.
If Columbia really wants to demonstrate serious reform to address the charges of fomenting hate on their campus, every student who can be identified as taking part in any of these encampments or riots should be immediately expelled. If they are in the United States on a student visa, that visa should be yanked, and the student repatriated.
The Interim President of Columbia University concluded her message with these words:
We must hold firm and summon the courage to meet this moment with determination, integrity and humility. I look forward to working with all of you to achieve exactly this.
Holding firm and showing any courage - any courage at all - much less determination and integrity, well, that would be something new coming from the faculty of Columbia University, and as for their Hamas-supporting students, perhaps they'd feel more at home in Gaza.
Antisemitism ran rampant on campuses across America under the previous administration—but Trump is cracking down.
