WARNING: A Harris Victory Would Usher in Economy-Crushing Green New Deal Lawfare

We all already know what day this is, and the many reasons why it's significant. If you're here - if you're a RedState reader - you're well above the curve in being politically aware and politically well-informed. You've been reading about the main contenders for the White House, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, and you've made up your mind by now.

But every day, something new comes up that makes the choice seem even more critical. This is an election like no other in recent history, and just in case you haven't quite made up your mind to go vote, here's one more reason: The flood of climate change, Green New Deal lawfare that a Harris administration would unleash on the United States economy.

On the "Watts Up With That" website, guest blogger Jason Isaac has the receipts.

Expect Kamala Harris’ Justice Department to wage Green New Deal lawfare if she is elected president on Nov. 5.

As with every last issue pertaining to this election, Harris has not said much about the substance of her climate policy. But a review of her record suggests she’d be amenable to unleashing the Justice Department on energy providers, and her conspicuously quiet allies on the climate left are optimistic she’ll do just that.

Unleashing the Justice Department on American energy companies means hurtling this country deep into the last century. Traditional energy sources are essential for the world historic quality of life most Americans enjoy. Litigation will drive prices up. The lawsuits will also strongarm a transition to electric vehicles, stoves, and water heaters that will remain unpopular with most people because they aren’t affordable and don’t work as well as gas-powered alternatives. Green New Deal lawfare unfolding at the state and local levels all over the country means to force those appliances onto an unwilling public through settlement terms or public spending funded by big money verdicts.

This sentence is key: "Litigation will drive prices up." This kind of litigation would be catastrophic to our economy. Energy prices drive every aspect of the economy. Our modern, high-tech culture, our society, is dependent on abundant, reliable, and, yes, cheap energy.

Harris's policies, such as they are, would result in rationed, unreliable and expensive energy. They would drive up the cost of everything - everything Americans do in their day-to-day lives. And Kamala Harris has already been involved in climate-change lawfare. From a 2016 story, when she was Attorney General in California:

California Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris is investigating whether Exxon Mobil Corp. repeatedly lied to the public and its shareholders about the risk to its business from climate change — and whether such actions could amount to securities fraud and violations of environmental laws.

Harris’ office is reviewing what Exxon Mobil knew about global warming and what the company told investors, a person close to the investigation said.

When she ran for president the first time, she was clearly on the side of the Green New Deal climate scolds.

Harris parroted claims typical of climate lawsuits during her ill-fated 2020 bid. She accused energy providers of concealing inside information about emissions, much as tobacco companies were accused of misleading customers about the health consequences of smoking.

“You should be really prepared to look at a serious fine or be charged with a crime,” Harris said at a 2019 town hall in South Carolina. She made a similar remark in an interview she gave to Mother Jones.

Kamala Harris has been reticent on making any policy statements since she was anointed as the Democratic presidential candidate. That's not surprising; in the first place, she doesn't have any policy positions, because she doesn't have any principles. She is a creature of the moment. She will say anything, do anything, that she thinks - or that her handlers tell her - will gain her any momentary advantage. In the second place, the positions she has taken in the past are wildly unpopular and would be economically ruinous.

Need Another Reason to Vote? Harris/Biden 'Inflation Reduction' Money Spent on Green Energy Boondoggles

If you're reading these words, I'm mortally certain you don't need any persuading to go vote. If you're reading these words, you've almost certainly already made up your mind. If I've learned one thing in my time as a RedState contributor, it is that we have some of the most savvy, well-informed readers I've seen anywhere. I've perused a lot of comments on a lot of sites over the last few decades, going back as far as Usenet (Remember Usenet? I miss Usenet.) And you folks are well above the mean.

Today, though, you may find yourself standing in a long, long line to cast your vote. You may be in line outside. It might be cold, windy, or rainy. It may be snowing. It may be sleeting. It may be blistering hot. But stay the course. Get your vote in. If you didn't have enough reasons to get it done, here I've given you a few more.

Let's make it happen. Let's make energy affordable again.
