This is what happens when staffers get bored. A story up on Politico this hour has some of the details, but in a nutshell [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ]’s Michigan chief strategist, John Yob, claims Rich Beeson ([mc_name name=’Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’R000595′ ]’s campaign) punched him the face. “The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles.”, Yob is quoted. Apparently, this whole thing took place last night at a bar on Mackinac Island where a Republican Leadership Conference is taking place.
And that’s really all that’s come out so far. Not a lot on exactly why a Rubio staffer would allegedly punch a Ron Paul staffer, but there you have it. So, I gotta ask because I’ve never made it this high in campaign circles, are there not handouts to staffers that suggest being nice to other candidates and their staff? Especially if say, the other staff members are still within the same party, sort of. I know Reagan had this whole thing of not speaking ill of other Republicans but maybe he should’ve included something about a no punching rule, too.
Expect more info on this matter as the day wears on. And who knows maybe more punches as this election season wears on. For those still pulling for Rubio to get a little more traction this is not the way to do it.
Update: The Hill has up some video showing a definite punch towards the end of 16 second clip. Plus some eyewitness reports. Beeson was apparently there to gin up support for a straw poll to be held in the area this weekend.
