Trump Won Big on Court Orders Last Friday but Now the Reckoning Awaits

Believe it or not, it seems that almost six months into Donald Trump's second term, he has finally hit his stride, and I could not be happier about it.

That may seem like a contradiction, but it's truly not.

Particularly when it comes to those who hold any sort of power in their hands for however long, and could make our everyday lives a little harder. Lots of people in those positions make our lives just a bit harder, whether they mean to or not, but it seems that Trump is not doing that.

Trump is just as rough as he was in the first term; however, he seems to be more focused on getting as much done as quickly as he can. That undoubtedly comes from his experience as POTUS 45 and gives him a very different and unique perspective that is giving him a leg up this term as POTUS 47. I could not have guessed this, but it makes all the sense in the world as he is NOT going to run for a third term.

This all came to my mind as I was reading a think piece, and it struck me while I was perusing the Detroit News earlier this morning.

From the think piece, Trump says he will move aggressively to undo nationwide blocks on his agenda...

An emboldened Trump administration plans to aggressively challenge blocks on the president’s top priorities, from immigration to education, following a major Supreme Court ruling that limits the power of federal judges to issue nationwide injunctions.

Government attorneys will press judges to pare back the dozens of sweeping rulings thwarting the president’s agenda “as soon as possible,” said a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal deliberations.

Priorities for the administration include injunctions related to the Education Department and the U.S. DOGE Service, as well as an order halting the dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the official said, detailing efforts to implement plans President Donald Trump announced Friday.

Damn.

“Thanks to this decision, we can now promptly file to proceed with numerous policies that have been wrongly enjoined on a nationwide basis,” Trump said at a news conference, during which he thanked by name members of the conservative high court majority he helped build.

Trump on Friday cast the narrowing of judicial power as a consequential, needed correction in his battle with a court system that has restrained his authority.

Double damn, but not bad or not nearly as bad as I thought.

We need a little bit of restraint on all of the lawsuits that have been filed since Trump 2.0 took office earlier in January.

That would not have been part of what I would have suggested after the November 2024 election, but in all actuality, how it's breaking down is quite perfect.

Later on in the piece, it explains how both conservatives and liberals have had part of their agendas hijacked by tying up things in the court. Depending of course, what side of the ledger that you're on, you may be rooting for that, but in eight years of a president's full term, lawsuits can tie up things for two-thirds of the time and make things complicated.

So far, the Trump team 2.0 has made a critical judgment on how to move these lawsuits through the courts faster than any other time in history, and so far, so good.

However, the battle is far from over.

In the short term, the ruling is a setback for liberals who have gone to court to thwart Trump. But the decision could also ultimately constrain conservatives seeking broad rulings to rein in a future Democratic president.

Trump undertook a flurry of executive actions in the opening month of his term that ranged from dismantling government agencies to seeking the end of birthright citizenship. There have been more than 300 lawsuits seeking to block his executive actions.

Therein lies the rub.

The left and the progressives are much better at utilizing the courts than conservatives have ever been. That these leftists have, according to the story, already filed 300 actions against Trump in under six months shows you how intent they are at stealing executive branch power.

That's a lot of potential court orders in such a small amount of time, it seems to me.

However, that makes total sense in the age that we live in. We are more interested in winning by judicial fiat than winning at the ballot box.

I know that may make some people mad, but it is a fact that I see every day.

Donald Trump, however, while he doesn't always seem to be on the same page as politicians of the past, understands the freedom to make choices instead of the government always doing it for you. Frankly, that has been the largest learning curve that I have had to navigate in this new Trump presidency. He's still a bull in a china shop, but he's being much more delicate and selective about the havoc that he's causing.

Trump, believe it or not, has the opportunity to loosen the government's control on everyday life that we deal with each day. Not just because of the lawsuits that are being filed, but the overall temperament and view that he holds, which overall I see as more libertarian.

I can't believe it either sometimes.

As long as he keeps doing this, the country will be much better off than he left it back in 2021 when he left after his first term. We have only had POTUS do a split time in office twice, and the first time with Grover Cleveland was ok, but now with Trump doing it, he could rewrite the rules and make it truly the second time being the charm.

I'm all for it.
