Well it's about damn time.
President Donald Trump, who won the state of Michigan in 2024 by 80,103 votes, has announced that he's finally coming back to the state for the first time since his election in November of last year and coming to Macomb County, which is the home of the Reagan Democrats.
Macomb, which Trump won all three times he has run, almost gave him the total margin of victory in the entire state in this county alone in 2024 by 69,683. The county and its blue-collar workers once again strayed true to form and chose the rebel Republican by a healthy margin.
I caught a tweet from the press secretary and then a story from the Detroit News about the visit.
President Donald Trump will hold a rally Tuesday in Macomb County to mark his first 100 days in office, the White House confirmed. It would be the president's first visit to the battleground state since winning the November election.
“President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan, where he will rally in Macomb County to celebrate his first 100 days in office," said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a Wednesday statement.
"Michiganders are benefitting from President Trump’s agenda to revitalize our economy and secure the southern border, and the best is yet to come!“

My only question is, why did it take almost a hundred days for the president to come back?
Has he been busy or something?
Of course, Trump has been on a tear since reassuming the office on January 20th of this year, and you would have to be in a cave to have not heard of all or some of the things that he has tackled along with his administration since reassuming the White House.
Now, maybe you recall a couple of weeks back, there was a delegation of elected officials from Michigan at the White House for a meeting, and the 47th President actually praised the governor and also said this…
This month, Trump said he was working with Michigan leaders to keep Macomb County's Selfridge Air National Guard Base "open, strong, thriving" ― teasing the possibility of new fighter jets.
"I think we're going to be successful, governor. I think we'll be very successful there," Trump said about Selfridge in remarks in the Oval Office with Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Republican state House Speaker Matt Hall standing nearby the president's desk.
Whitmer had her "moment" when she covered her face with folders as the cameras were clicking. Gretch is such a card.

She was so exposed that she shielded her face from cameras, per NYT.

Now, the surprise part of this equation, I have been led to believe, is that Selfridge Air National Guard Base will gain additional missions to keep it open and thriving. The base has been a fixture in the county forever, and the president already indicated at the White House that he would be in favor of keeping it open.
However, and this is a BIG however, there has been a lot of lobbying behind the scenes to get Trump to endorse earlier than most normal politicians would do so, 19 months before the general election in 2026.
The reason is quite simple. Michigan is a blue state that has twice turned red (or purple, depending on your math) in the past three POTUS elections, with both times the state going red when Donald Trump was at the top of the ticket. So if Trump is not leading the way, the folks down ticket, running statewide, have some problems to solve.
A Trump endorsement in the primary is almost a guaranteed winner, and the sooner you get that taken care of, the sooner you can start raising cash for the general election.
The 2026 cycle has four statewide offices in play, with a United States Senate seat, governor, secretary of state, and attorney general all up for grabs.
Current congressman John James has already announced his intention to seek the GOP nomination for Governor, which I wrote about right here...
Could an endorsement of James be part of the visit this week in Macomb County?
The reaction so far on the GOP side has been a bit mixed, which is not surprising given that James ran for the United States Senate in the state twice and barely lost both times. However, if part of what I was told a couple of weeks back is true, that Donald Trump will get involved earlier here and endorse James to shorten the primary season so that the party can unify behind his candidate.
Being that Michigan is a blue state and Trump will never be at the top of the ticket again to get a victory. Winning statewide, time is of the essence, and forming solid momentum to win is key to that.
As I said in my article, linked above:
From my perch, I will vote for any Republican who agrees to the simple fact that they will not declare medical emergencies to shove elderly people into care facilities and nursing homes and not allow families to see them as they draw their last breath. I know that seems radical but after experiencing what Governor Gretch did in some of the things I highlighted in my article above, it's time to just cover the bases.
'Tis better to get that on the record ahead of time just to make sure you're on the same page with whoever the Republican candidate will be.
The rally happens on Tuesday, and as most have seen at a Trump event, just about anything can happen. I will let you know after the rally what surprises, if any, occurred.
