Occasionally you trip across people who just seem to be too good to be true. They stick to their guns and they take a whole heap of scorn but keep on moving forward and don’t get stopped. The modern-day example of this person seems to be Tim Tebow.
Tebow, who has played both football at the collegiate and pro level is a former Heisman Trophy winner and the national championship in college, and is now trying his hand at baseball is equally known for his strong CHRISTian views. Including being a powerful voice for the unborn and pro-life advocate.
He spoke at the Kansans for Life annual Valentine’s Day banquet on February 11th and gave a speech that happened to mention what his priorities are being both a CHRISTian and an athlete.
From Life News…
The highlight of the evening for many was the keynote address by Tim Tebow, former quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
“It is such an honor to be here,” Tebow said as he thanked the archbishop, politicians, and Culp for work on behalf of the unborn.
Tebow also thanked Hunt for “having courage in the face of a lot of other people who don’t have it and for your willingness to be up here and support this organization.”
“It really does mean a lot more than winning the Super Bowl,” Tebow said. He added, “One day, when you look back and people are talking about you and they say Oh my gosh what are you going to be known for? Are you going to say Super Bowl, or we saved a lot of babies?”
That is pretty brash coming and goes against the grain of modern society don’t you think?
However, because of the strength of Tebow not backing down from his views on God in his life and the role his faith plays in it, I have no doubt he has inspired other athletes who are in the prime of their careers and are willing to speak out in a similar manner.
Tebow had every bit of ridicule that the internet mob could throw at him for his kneeling in prayer in the end zone before a game but he continued to do it and in the face of that continued to lead his team in victories. Someone in middle age would have trouble with that public scorn but Tebow was just a kid in his early 20’s and he handled it with the ease of someone with millennia of confidence and experience.
At the end of the day, I’m sure that Tim Tebow would have loved to win a Super Bowl or someday go and be on a winning team in the fall classic in the World Series. No one that trains like an athlete does so just for fun but to be the best at what they do. However, he knows that championships are not ultimately the goal he has but helping people save babies’ lives in the womb. That I believe is a greater reward than all the others combined.
I’m glad we have such people walking among us today leading the way for the rest of us to see and hopefully follow.
