There is a reason why it was important that the GOP kept the Senate in 2018 and we are seeing the fruits of that labor right now. Sen. Mitch McConnell was fresh off the impeachment trial that acquitted Donald Trump and he joined radio host Hugh Hewitt on his nationwide show to talk about judges.
Federal. Judges.
From Washington Times…
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is keeping his chamber focused on filling judicial vacancies, with a circuit court judge lined up for confirmation Tuesday.
The Kentucky Republican told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt that Senate Republicans have been able to remake the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals so it doesn’t lean so far to the left.
“We’ve changed the Ninth Circuit,” Mr. McConnell said. “My motto for the year is ‘leave no vacancy behind.’ “
As my colleague, Elizabeth Vaughn covered here right after the trial was over Mitch McConnell Exposes the Democrats’ Real Motive in Post-Acquittal Press Conference the Senate majority leader knew what was up. The whole witness charade was to put Senators of the GOP on the hot spot for the 2020 election.
So Mitch is responding in the only way he can. Making sure that he can confirm as many judges as President Trump has nominated through the end of this year. He started that process right back up after the Senate adjourned the impeachment trial and he plans on doing this for as long as he can. As he mentioned on the show they have actually changed the makeup of the liberal 9th circuit and hope to continue doing so.
Also, could you imagine the ultimate doomsday scenario if one of the Supreme Court Justices stepped down or was abducted by aliens before the end of this year? Can you say all hell breaking loose?
Who better to lead than the guy doing it right now?
The Republicans only have a three-seat lead in the upper chamber as we speak, so take some time and get to know who is running where and see if you are interested in getting involved this summer and fall. I think Sen. Mitch McConnell has shown he has done a damn fine job as leader of the Senate and it would be good to keep it that way in 2021 and beyond.
