CNN Ratings Dive Results In Cutting Jobs In London. What's next?

Someone get the crying towel out for Jim Acosta and Don Lemon.

Just a couple days ago before President Trump’s visit to Great Britain and London in particular, comes the word that “The Worldwide Leader in News” is shrinking its reach in England’s capital city.

You don’t say!!!

According to  The Guardian

CNN is preparing to make substantial cuts to its London-based television news operation in a move that is likely to result in at least a dozen employees losing their jobs.

The announcement was made by Jeff Zucker, the CNN boss, at a “town hall” meeting on Tuesday in the company’s office in central London.

Staff, including some managers whose shows were affected, were given no advance warning of the announcement, according to some of those present. Zucker told them that the international channel was losing $10m (£8m) a year, according to those present.

The cuts come shortly after the longstanding CNN International boss Tony Maddox unexpectedly announced he was leaving the station earlier this month.

People losing their jobs is never a good thing but if you watch CNN you know why these and other cuts are happening. The ratings continue to shrink because they are pretending to be a news organization while being advocates for certain points of views. No one can honestly watch Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon and say they are news guys. They are really bad at trying to frame stories from a certain point of view. The people who are on other networks like Fox and MSNBC at these same times freely admit they are partisans.

Thus, therein lies the rub.

CNN gave up the objectivity ghost long ago under the leadership of Jeff Zucker and no amount of railing against that point will make it any less true. Saying you are just a “news” organization but you have the programming of the editorial staff of the New York Times damn near 24/7 undercuts that talking point.

CNN should send Jake Tapper out and just admit that most of the hosts on the network don’t like Trump, conservatives in general or pro-life people and freely admit it. That would be intellectually honest instead of this hodgepodge mess they have right now. Side note to Tapper, please STOP defending your colleagues just because they are your colleagues. Just because you work at the same place does not by some magical virtue dust make them right.

AT&T recently bought out Time Warner, which owns CNN, and speculation is they are the ones pushing for these and more cuts from the flailing network. If that is true we may see even more cuts for CNN and some personnel changes coming in the very near future.

Which means Jim and Don will have to share those cry towels.
