In case you were wondering, the Democrat Party and its "soft bigotry of low expectations" is alive and well in Washington, D.C. – and this time around, it's being positioned as "concern" for women. Women who are apparently too stupid to update their IDs after a name change, that is.
I'm, of course, talking about the leftist meltdowns surrounding the SAVE America Act, legislation introduced by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas that would prevent illegals from voting in American elections by requiring a valid ID. Something nearly 85 percent of Americans approve of, by the way. Roy's bill was passed in the House on Wednesday on a 218-213 split, with only one Democrat voting for it.
The debate around the SAVE America Act has made one thing abundantly clear: Democrats think requiring proof of citizenship to vote will somehow put women at a disadvantage because they, apparently, are uniquely incapable of figuring how to update their names on government documents.
Several Democrat lawmakers have suggested that married women, in particular, will struggle to comply with documentation requirements because their last names may not match their birth certificates. Others have warned that women could be “confused” or “burdened” by the paperwork involved, and would, thus, be disenfranchised from voting.
Cripe almighty, seriously?
The SAVE Act simply reinforces existing federal law that only U.S. citizens may vote in federal elections by requiring proof of citizenship when registering. That’s it. It does not outlaw marriage. It does not revoke anyone’s driver’s license. It does not require women to solve differential equations before casting a ballot.

So, while one side of the left's collective mouth is bigging up women as "boss babes" who run the world, the other side is telling us we're feeble wee beings incapable of correctly filling out and submitting paperwork. (Something we do all the time as wives, mothers, and people who live in the real world.)
Make it make sense.
As usual, the so-called "feminists" out there are not only not fighting the idea that the vast majority of American women are too delicate to get their arses to the DMV, they're perpetuating it. Here's a trio of Democrat congresswomen:
- Rep. Katherine Clark of Massachusetts warned that the SAVE American Act’s proof-of-citizenship requirement would add "more paperwork, more bureaucracy between women and the ballot box."
- Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico claimed that registering could become so burdensome that "women could be forced to drive five hours roundtrip just to vote."
- Rep. Emilia Sykes of Ohio suggested that if a woman’s current name “doesn’t match the name on your birth certificate or citizenship papers, you could be blocked from registering to vote."
And if you're one of the millions upon millions of women who are able to successfully navigate updating your name and acquiring a new driver's license? Well, aren't you the privileged one?!
Here's the harrowing tale of what happened when I had to change my name after getting married back in the 1990s (and, mind you, back then we didn't have the internet and AI to hold our hands through the process). I took a copy of my current driver's license and our marriage certificate to the DMV and got it updated. I then mailed my passport, along with a copy of the marriage certificate, to the passport office in D.C.; they, in turn, mailed me my new passport and returned the marriage certificate. You all, we were married in May and I was able to vote that November – can you even believe it? I am woman!
Needless to say, an "undue burden," it was not.
Women obtain driver’s licenses. Women apply for passports. Women file taxes. Women apply for mortgages, car loans, and credit cards. We enroll our children in school. Women navigate Social Security paperwork. Women manage small businesses. Women even serve in Congress – some more successfully than others. But, we’re supposed to believe that showing documentation to register to vote is just a bridge too far?
It’s not just insulting rhetoric coming from Democrats – it’s downright absurd.
