Here's How Donald Trump Can Save Virginia

I don't have to tell the readers of RedState that the commonwealth of Virginia is currently under siege, but here I go anyway. My beautiful state is on the precipice of ruin at the hands of Democrats, who, let's face it, had a great 2025 election season in the Old Dominion; as of a few weeks ago, we've got radical Dems running the Governor's Mansion, as well as both houses of the General Assembly. (I was going to reemphasize the radical natures of the Democrats who now run Virginia, but is there really any other kind of Democrat these days?)

In the past few weeks, Democrat have introduced a crazy array of far-left bills that have both Karl Marx and Saul Alinsky clapping in delight. State police can no longer assist ICE with immigration operations. A redistricting plan is in the works that would nuke the GOP out of most of its congressional seats. Taxes on everything from Uber rides and DoorDash deliveries to gym memberships and dry-cleaning are being planned.

So, how did we get here?

Democrats Are One Step Closer to Nuking Most of Virginia's GOP Congressional Seats

There are a number of factors at play. To be brutally honest, the Republican Party hasn't been strong in Virginia in a long while, and Glenn Youngkin did precious little to shore it up during his four years as governor. Now, he did a lot of things that I liked, particularly in the area of keeping Virginia a strong state for business, but there was not a lot of work being done to field a bench of viable candidates. As I've written before, Winsome Earle-Sears is a fine woman, but was a terrible gubernatorial candidate.

Abigail Spanberger campaigned as a moderate, but has quickly revealed herself to be anything but. There's a petition going around calling for the "legislative review and accountability of Governor Abigail Spanberger." It's amassed nearly 84,000 signatures so far.

Governor Spanberger campaigned as a pragmatic, bipartisan moderate, promising affordability, balance, and common-sense governance. However, since taking office, her administration has advanced a legislative agenda that many Virginians believe directly contradicts those campaign commitments and imposes significant financial, public safety, and constitutional concerns on the people of Virginia.

And then there's the far-left utopia of Northern Virginia, home to vast numbers of federal workers and hysterical white liberal women. That's where I live, so I'm well-versed in AWFLs. NoVA's vote has outsized impact on the rest of the state; landwise, most of Virginia is solidly red and conservative. Votewise, NoVA, along with Richmond and parts of the Tidewater area, dictates what happens to the rest of the commonwealth.

But, there is something – actually a few "somethings" – that can be done to save Virginia, and there's one man who can do it: Donald Trump. Let's dive in.

Step One: Return Arlington County and Alexandria City to the District of Columbia

This is the most important part of the process: revert the District of Columbia to its original boundaries, which include some of the bluest part of Northern Virginia. The District was originally created in 1790 as a 10-mile square carved out of portions of both Virginia and Maryland; Virginia reabsorbed its bit in 1847.

Here's the important part: by going back to the original land borders, Arlington County and Alexandria City would become part of D.C. These two areas are overrun by both unhinged liberals and illegals from South and Central America. You may recall a woman from Arlington making the news last summer when she waved a sign at Winsome Sears that read: "Hey Winsome, if trans can’t share your bathroom, then Blacks can’t share my water fountain."

Yeah, I'm fine with letting D.C. deal with that nonsense.

Step Two: Create Tax Incentives for Federal Employees Who Live in D.C.

Liberals might like to cosplay as kind-hearted socialists, but they're as greedy as they come. They love the social standing that comes with being affluent and they're not about to give that up. Since so many NoVA residents work for the federal government, give them tax incentives to move across the Potomac. My husband said a flat tax of 10% would get them to move in droves, so let's star there.

Here's where things get interesting. A deluge of federal employees snatching up homes in the District will not only drive up already-high housing prices, but will also make some decision-makers think twice about how the size of the federal workforce. All it takes is a few higher-ups getting outbid on a coveted property, and we could see rapid reductions in force (RIFs) and early retirement offers.

The left will eat their own.

Step Three: Relocate As Many Federal Agencies As Possible Out of D.C. and Into Blue Areas of the Country

This one has been bandied about for years, and might not be necessary if steps 1 and 2 come to fruition. No administration has had the guts to gut D.C.'s hold on the federal government, but Donald Trump likes to zig when others are zagging. I haven't seen much talk of this, but Trump could play his very own arcade claw game by picking up entire departments and depositing them elsewhere.

There is a caveat here: the agencies must be relocated to already-blue regions of the country. I've seen firsthand what happens when areas are invaded by entitled government workers, and none of it is good. Let the blue areas absorb have 'em.

Virginia is far too important a state to cede to Democrats. Any one of these ideas would upend the Democrats' hold on the commonwealth, and just think what kind of legacy Trump would have if he returned the state that gave us, among others, George Washington, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson, to a place of sanity and reasonableness.
